Shabu-kalguksu in Yongin with two noodles: Yun Ujae

In short

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu restaurant in Gogidong, Yongin, Gyeonggi. I comfortably visited its spacious dining room while wearing a baby carrier and had the White Broth Set for two plus crispy seafood pajeon for 23,000 won and 16,000 won. The 11,500-won-per-person course, mild broth, and crisp pancake were all satisfying.

At last, the scorching summer has passed and cool breezes are blowing in the mornings and evenings. Maybe it was the weather, but I wanted kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) SO badly, so even in the midst of childcare, I bravely went out wearing the baby carrier. Nobody can stop me..⭐️

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu is a well-known Dongcheon-dong favorite for its great value, so its parking lot is sometimes full on weekends. If that happens, you can park at the Pureuni Daycare Center across the street.

There was no spot that day too, so I parked at Pureuni and walked over. It was not a long walk at all, so it was no trouble.

There was a wait when I arrived, so I joined it through Catchtable. Luckily, there was only one party ahead of us, and we got seated in about five minutes right away 😋

The dining room is very spacious and pleasant. There is plenty of room between tables too, so it was comfortable to move around even with my baby carrier on.

The ₩11,500-per-person shabu-kalguksu set

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu is a Dongcheon-dong favorite known for value. Unlike restaurants with complicated menus, it gives you a whole course of shabu-shabu, kalguksu, and fried rice for just ₩11,500 per person.

Simple but abundant! So really, the only thing you choose at the kiosk is the broth.

Guide to choosing Red or White broth
Red Thing,, White Thing,,

You can choose Red or White, and we picked White. The menu names are literally “Red Thing” and “White Thing”.. so cute. You can also choose a spicy version of the White broth, so pick according to your taste!

Meat and two kinds of kalguksu in the White broth

They set a pot of shabu broth piled high with minari (water celery) and mushrooms on the induction cooktop. Once it starts bubbling away, you just add the fresh shabu meat and cook it to your liking.

The broth had really absorbed the aroma of the mushrooms and minari, and it was so good with the meat. Once you have eaten a fair amount of meat, it is time to add the kalguksu.

Kalguksu noodles to add to shabu-kalguksu

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu unusually serves two kinds: flat kalguksu and regular kalguksu. My husband started cutting the flat noodles with scissors before putting them in, so I hurriedly stopped him.. You can simply pull the flat noodles apart one by one and add them.

Wrap the shabu mushrooms and meat in the flat noodles, and the chewy texture makes it a real treat..

Fresh kimchi and self-service bar guide
You can also get cubed radish kimchi from the self-service bar, not just this fresh kimchi

Another key player was the kimchi. As you would expect from a great kalguksu spot, the geotjeori (fresh kimchi) was delicious too. If you run out, help yourself to more at the self-service bar!

After the flat noodles came the regular kalguksu! After dropping the noodles into the broth, you can use the hourglass on the table to get the cooking time just right. I tried to turn the induction heat up to 8 midway through, but it would not work, which briefly threw me off..

As it turned out, you need to press the power button twice. Leaving this here for anyone who might get lost like I did haha

I took a bite of the finished kalguksu, bubbling furiously away, and yes, it was simply delicious kalguksu.. It is even better topped with geotjeori. I even had to listen to my husband's wonderfully vigorous noodle slurping.

Eating Crispy Seafood Pajeon

Crispy seafood pajeon and a fried-rice finish

Just as we were starting to get full, the seafood pajeon (scallion pancake) we had ordered arrived. It was much bigger than I expected, so my husband and I held our hands against it to compare sizes..

One bite made me understand why it is called Crispy Seafood Pajeon. It was crispy enough to make a real crunching sound. I loved that it was generously filled with seafood too.

And of course, fried rice is the proper finish! The instructions on the table clearly explain the steps, so it was very easy to make 🙃

It was mild and clean-tasting, so I kept eating even when I was full. The seafood pajeon was so big that we had leftovers, but there is a separate packing area in the restaurant, so we took it home. I reheated it at home the next day and it was insanely good..⭐️

First of all, this much food for ₩11,500 per person is just unbelievable. ✨ Seriously amazing value ✨ The staff were all kind, and the food was clean and delicious. If you are looking for a great-value Dongcheon-dong restaurant, you will not regret it. I think I will return once the weather gets even cooler.
