Cheonan café with September zinnias and beef ragù risotto: Siyudang

In short

Siyudang is a four-story brunch and bakery café in Pungse-myeon, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, right in front of the Taehaksan Recreation Forest entrance. On a weekday visit on September 29, the writer had the 455m Peak Pizza, beef brisket ragù tomato risotto, cod roe cream pasta and an iced Americano, then toured the 4th-floor zinnia garden and the yellow cosmos on the 3rd-floor terrace. Siyudang is a large Cheonan café where a meal, coffee and autumn flowers fit into one easy stop.

What is Siyudang, the brunch café near Taehaksan in Cheonan?

Siyudang (시유당) is a brunch and bakery café near Taehaksan Recreation Forest in Cheonan. You can get brunch, baked goods and coffee, and the 4th floor has a space where you can see seasonal flowers. When I visited on September 29, the zinnias up there were in beautiful full bloom, so I got a proper taste of autumn 🌼

When you want brunch and a pretty café to relax in around Cheonan, it's hard to decide where to go. I went to Siyudang this time and there was more to see than I expected ❤️ For anyone looking for a brunch café in Cheonan, I'll share everything from parking to the menu to the space ☺️

Is it easy to get to Siyudang and park?

Siyudang is on the left just before the entrance to Taehaksan Recreation Forest, with plenty of parking in front of the café and near the entrance. It's a café up in the hills, so I was a little worried parking would be a hassle on my first visit, but once I arrived there was nothing to worry about 🚗

Siyudang floor by floor

Siyudang has four floors: ordering and pickup on the 1st, a hall on the 2nd, a hall and terrace on the 3rd, and on the 4th a zinnia garden where the flowers were blooming beautifully 🌼 The first things that caught my eye when I walked in were the big space and the bread ☺️

2nd floor: floor and regular seating, plus a plant photo spot

The 2nd floor has both floor seating and regular seats, and on the terrace side there's a photo spot with plants 📷 I thought they were artificial, but I was told they're real plants, so I stared at them for a good while.

3rd floor terrace and facilities

The 3rd floor has a terrace that's lovely to sit on in good weather, and it was fairly busy even on a weekday 🤩 When choosing a brunch café in Cheonan, food matters, but I also look at whether it's a place you can linger, and on that count I was satisfied 😍

The facilities on the 2nd and 3rd floors were well kept too 🤩

Siyudang menu and the weekday lunch discount

The brunch menu covers sandwiches, steak, salad, pizza, pasta and risotto, and on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. meals get 10% off (platters and pizza excluded). The coffee and drink selection was wide too.

  • Brunch: sandwiches, steak, salad, pizza, pasta, risotto
  • Signature drinks: Siyu black tea, Siyu Einspänner (cream-topped coffee), apple cinnamon latte, ginger latte
  • Coffee and drinks: Americano, cold brew, ade, smoothies, tea, highball
  • Non-coffee: tea, juice, iced tea

I heard the coffee is brewed by a barista with SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) and coffee instructor certifications, and the drinks use homemade fruit syrups (cheong) made by a certified syrup specialist 👍🏼

Siyudang bakery

The bakery has egg tarts, salt bread, financiers, croissants and more, and the signature line is five flavors called "Meet the Peaks of Taehaksan" 🥐 Getting brunch, baked goods and coffee all in one place is another plus for Siyudang ❤️ If you want a Cheonan café that also handles a proper meal, it's a good one to stop by 🤗

You order and pick up on the 1st floor, then take the elevator to your seat 😊 You can load the food onto a cart, which made things quite easy even when I ordered several dishes 🤩

How was the food we ordered at Siyudang?

That day at Siyudang I ordered the 455m Peak Pizza, beef brisket ragù tomato risotto, cod roe cream pasta and an iced Americano.

🍅 Beef brisket ragù tomato risotto

The tomato-based risotto was generously topped with sliced beef brisket, so it looked hearty from the start. The ragù is simmered for a long time with beef and assorted vegetables, so you get the tangy tomato and the deep flavor of the meat together 🧡

Eating it with the brisket added a savory, salty note, and it was quite filling as a meal 👍🏼 It's cleaner to eat than a cream risotto, so personally I found it easier to keep going.

🍝 Cod roe cream pasta

The cod roe cream pasta is worth a look if you like cod roe (myeongran) 👀 The cream sauce is made with cod roe, green onion and bacon, so a faint green onion aroma comes first 💚 The salty umami of the roe on top of the smooth cream makes the flavor rich. There was also a slight kick here and there that cut the heaviness typical of cream pasta.

Eating it with the bacon added savory, salty notes, so I enjoyed it to the very end.

🍕 455m Peak Pizza

The 455m Peak Pizza is Siyudang's signature pizza, inspired by the 455 m summit of Taehaksan and shaped like its ridgeline 🍕 It has mushrooms, crispy shredded potato, arugula and jambon (ham) on tomato sauce, and it looked a little different from an ordinary pizza right away 🤩

I especially liked the contrast between the crispy shredded potato and the chewy dough, and the fragrant arugula went nicely with the salty ham 🧡 Rather than eating the toppings separately, it was better when I piled several ingredients on one bite 🤩 If you like signature dishes, it's worth ordering once 💛 After all the rich dishes, my hand naturally reached for the iced Americano 🤗

It's a clean, not-too-heavy style, so it goes well with rich dishes like pasta and risotto 🧡 Taking it slow with a cup of coffee after the meal really made it feel like a café. I think that's why, when hunting for a good brunch spot in Cheonan, I end up preferring places where you can enjoy a café too 🤎

🧊 Iced Americano

The food was good overall, so I also ordered an iced Americano to cleanse the palate now and then 💛 Siyudang's iced Americano was a clean style that goes well with rich food and wasn't heavy alongside the meal 🧡

Especially with rich dishes like cream pasta or risotto, a sip of Americano makes your mouth feel fresh again! If you order several dishes from pizza to pasta to risotto, I recommend adding a coffee ☕️ It was a relaxed way to finish, enjoying the café atmosphere after the meal 💛💛

Is Siyudang okay for kids?

Siyudang has high chairs and a roomy space, so it looked comfortable for families. However, some spots, like the piano photo zone on the 2nd floor, need care when kids use them, so it's best to go with a parent. So for people looking for a Cheonan café to go to with kids, it's worth considering as a place with both food and things to see 🤩

Yellow cosmos on the 3rd floor and the 4th-floor zinnia garden in late September

On one side of the 3rd-floor terrace there were yellow cosmos too, so you could soak up the autumn mood 🌼 It would have been a bit of a letdown if this were a café where you eat and leave right away, but with flowers to look at, I ended up staying longer than expected 💛 People looking for somewhere to visit with kids may find this a useful reference.

And Siyudang's other highlight is the 4th-floor zinnia garden. On September 29 the zinnias were in full bloom, with red, orange and yellow flowers in a riot of color, and it was really pretty 🩷🩷 The rooftop also has nicely decorated photo spots, so it's great for taking pictures 💛

Who Siyudang in Cheonan is right for

Overall, Siyudang was less a café for just drinking coffee and more a place to enjoy a meal, a café and flower-viewing all at once 🌼 Parking was easy and the space was big enough to stay a while, and at the time of my visit I could see zinnias and cosmos too, so I really felt the season 💛

From the 455m Peak Pizza to the beef brisket ragù tomato risotto and cod roe cream pasta, the menu has a wide range, so I think it suits people looking for a brunch café in Cheonan 💙 If you want both a good brunch spot and a big café with atmosphere, stop by Siyudang near Taehaksan 🤩 In flower season, there's the added fun of eating and then strolling around slowly 🌼
