Seogwipo braised cutlassfish breakfast: Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon

In short

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is a seafood restaurant in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, where we had breakfast with our baby. We enjoyed the A set’s spicy braised cutlassfish, while our baby ate sea urchin seaweed soup with rice and grilled tilefish well.

On a day we were traveling around eastern Jeju, I reserved Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점) in Seongsan for breakfast with our baby. Our baby tends to wake up early, so we needed a place where we could eat in the morning, and we stopped by because there were dishes to have alongside cutlassfish.

What time can you eat breakfast from?

The hours listed in the original post are 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM, with last orders at 9:00 PM. We reserved ahead through Naver and arrived around 9:00 AM. The address is 1F, 101 Sinyang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju.

It is near Seongsan Ilchulbong, so it was easy to pair breakfast with our morning plans. We found moving around and sightseeing a little difficult once there were more tourists in the afternoon. Finishing breakfast before heading to eastern Jeju suited our itinerary well.

What was it like dining with a baby and family?

The restaurant was spacious and had a high chair. There were many families when we visited, including one family dining together across three generations.

What comes with the A set?

The menu was divided into A, B, C, and D sets. The A set we had included galchi-jorim (braised cutlassfish), okdom-gui (grilled tilefish), chalsotbap (sticky rice cooked in an individual pot), ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab), and a choice of haemul ttukbaegi (seafood stew in an earthenware pot) or seongge miyeokguk (sea urchin seaweed soup). We chose the sea urchin seaweed soup to share with our baby.

The soy-marinated crab served with the side dishes had a rich seasoning and was slightly salty. The meat came away softly, making it good with rice. The restaurant said it also sold the soy-marinated crab by delivery; after trying it, I thought I would have wanted to order some if it had been the last day of our trip.

How was the sea urchin seaweed soup to share with a baby?

The sea urchin seaweed soup had a refreshing broth with a savory depth. My husband especially liked it. I set aside a little for our baby, cut the seaweed into small pieces, and mixed it with rice; our baby ate it well. It was a good dish for the three of us to share at breakfast.

How much cutlassfish was there, and how spicy was it?

The braised cutlassfish had more fish than I expected. It was pleasantly spicy and had some heat, but even my husband and I, who do not handle spicy food particularly well, could eat it comfortably.

How were the grilled tilefish and pot-cooked rice?

The rice came in a stone pot and tasted good. The grilled tilefish was crisp on the outside and moist inside. I picked out the meat for our baby, who ate it well along with rice mixed into the seaweed soup.

Of the restaurants we visited on this Jeju trip, this was where our baby ate the best. Our baby ate quite a lot of rice too, which made me happy. We considered going to the nearby Aqua Planet as well, but decided to visit when our child is a little older; I thought it would be nice to have breakfast here then, too.
