Namyangju café after a Yangpyeong stroller trip: Waltz & Dr. Mahn
In short
Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large riverside café on the Bukhangang River in Joan-myeon, Namyangju, Gyeonggi, recognized as a Hundred-Year Shop, with a coffee museum and classical music filling the space. As the last stop of a first Yangpyeong trip with a baby, the writer pushed a stroller to Waltz and Dr. Mahn on a weekend and had two iced drip coffees and Opera cake at an outdoor table. The Bukhangang River view and atmosphere were impressive, but drip coffee starts at 14,000 won a cup. Waltz and Dr. Mahn is pricey, yet the scenery and space make it a rewarding café to end a day trip near Seoul.

This was our first trip with the baby, to Yangpyeong. We'd been to Dumulmeori, eaten well, and before heading back to Seoul I wanted to stretch the trip out a little longer, so we stopped at Waltz and Dr. Mahn (왈츠와 닥터만) in Namyangju. I had to push a stroller, so I was looking for somewhere spacious and easy, and that's how I found it. Long story short: I get why people come here on purpose.
Where is Waltz and Dr. Mahn, and what's the atmosphere like?
Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large café on the Bukhangang riverside in Joan-myeon, Namyangju, with a big parking lot, roomy spaces and a classically styled building. Honestly, I first thought it was just a café with a nice view, but I changed my mind the moment I arrived. It's a perfect last stop for a trip. It was a weekend, so it was packed.

Grand, gorgeous, what is this place?! It feels perfect for an anniversary.

Full on a weekend: outdoor seats with a Bukhangang River view
The view where you can see the whole Bukhangang River at a glance was especially impressive. A riverside café living up to its name, right?
The indoor seats were almost all taken, so we couldn't sit inside and took an outdoor table. It was a bit hot, but the river scenery right in front of us made me forget the heat. If you're planning to visit, I recommend reserving an indoor seat in advance. When it gets hotter, outdoors might be tough (sob), but the romance is doubled, haha.

A Hundred-Year Shop with its own coffee museum
Waltz and Dr. Mahn has a very long history. There's even a coffee museum! Admission is ₩10,000. Next time I'd love to come with more time and see the museum too. It turns out it's a Baekyeon Gage (백년가게, a government-certified 100-year shop).
What is the interior of Waltz and Dr. Mahn like?
Soft classical music plays inside Waltz and Dr. Mahn, so the whole café feels very elegant and calm. What I liked most was the atmosphere the space gives off. There were lots of couples on dates, and plenty of families too.
Window seats are recommended for anniversaries!! And the organ is hundreds of years old!!!

Iced drip coffee and Opera cake at Waltz and Dr. Mahn
What we ordered that day was two iced drip coffees and an Opera cake. My husband and I both love coffee, so we went with drip, and the aroma was really good.

Sipping the coffee while looking out at the Bukhangang, the afterglow of the trip seemed to linger on and on. The Opera cake we ordered with it was satisfying too, with its rich chocolate flavor pairing well with the coffee.

It's delicious but small... small and precious...
How much is drip coffee at Waltz and Dr. Mahn, and any downsides?
The downside of Waltz and Dr. Mahn is that prices are quite high compared with ordinary cafés. The cheapest drip coffee is ₩14,000 a cup,,,! Ours were ₩16,000 and ₩14,000. Honestly, I was a little shocked when I first saw the drip coffee prices. I guess they use really good beans to match?
But after actually experiencing the scenery, the atmosphere and the satisfaction the space gives, I could see why people keep coming even though it's expensive.
Bukhangang River view photo spots
Waltz and Dr. Mahn has lots of spots for photos too, so we took plenty, from baby pictures to family shots. Personally, I understood right away why this is such a famous Bukhangang café.
Is Waltz and Dr. Mahn a good last stop on a Yangpyeong trip with a baby?
If you're planning a drive or a trip near Seoul, and you're looking for a large, spacious café in Namyangju, Waltz and Dr. Mahn is worth a visit at least once. It let us end our first Yangpyeong trip with the baby on a really happy note. Next time I'd like to book ahead and come back with a bit more time.
Mommy will take you to lots and lots of nice places, sweet pea~~ I recommend Waltz and Dr. Mahn as a large café in Namyangju :-)
