It's another really hot day! We're heading into summer, aren't we? I was wondering what to have for dinner, and since the kids had been singing "pork belly, pork belly" for the past couple of days, we had a tasty dinner at Hwarou (화로우), a Natgae restaurant in Dadaepo close to home.

If you come to Natgae often, you've probably passed the "Hwarou, 7th floor" sign many times... I see that sign every day too, so I was so excited to finally visit today 😊

What is the ocean view like at Hwarou in Natgae, Dadaepo?

Hwarou is on the 7th floor of the Myeongga Ssambap (명가 쌈밥집) building in Natgae, Dadaepo, and the moment you step in you see a wide-open view of the Dadaepo sea. There's a parking lot too, which was convenient! You take the elevator up, and the entrance already gives off a "this is going to be good" smell.

As soon as I walked in, the open Dadaepo sea view caught my eye! I doubt there's another BBQ place in Natgae, Dadaepo with a view this good 🙂

And the owner at Hwarou is just so nice! Watching them smile and greet every single guest made me smile too! I was surprised there were quite a few people even though it was a Monday, and I think the owner's kindness brings in lots of true regulars^^

Hwarou serves basic banchan (side dishes), but if you want more, the self-bar is generously stocked so you can bring back plenty.

What we ordered at Hwarou Dadaepo with kids: pork belly and jowl set

You order by table order (tablet), and although beef is the specialty, I chose the set menu with whole pork belly and pork jowl because of the kids. Now that we've had a look around Hwarou, let me hurry up and order on the tablet!

Honestly, beef is Hwarou's specialty, but the kids wanted more pork belly, so I ordered the set menu with whole pork belly and pork jowl.

How does pork belly taste grilled over Hwarou's charcoal brazier?

Hwarou grills the meat on an unusually shaped real-charcoal brazier. The whole pork belly was bursting with juice, and the pork jowl (hangjeongsal) grilled up nicely too. These are the basic banchan that came after we ordered, and there were even more dishes at the self-bar, so it was great to be able to help ourselves as much as we wanted.

After a short wait, Hwarou's special charcoal brazier arrived! The grill's shape was so unusual it's incomparable to other BBQ places. Meat grilled on a brazier is always delicious 😘

They also brought out the meat we ordered. Can you see how it looks? It's packed with good-quality whole pork belly and pork jowl, such a generous amount^^

Now let's put the meat on the brazier^^ The moment it landed, we heard a crisp sizzle, sizzle that really got the appetite going.

Bibim makguksu (spicy buckwheat noodles) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) in the set

The whole pork belly and pork jowl set includes bibim makguksu (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles) and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). While the meat was grilling, the bibim makguksu and a tasty doenjang jjigae came out too^^

The bibim makguksu portion is quite big! Mix it well and eat it with well-grilled pork belly, and it's the icing on the cake.

The pork belly grilled over charcoal turned a lovely golden brown. The moment I took a bite, the juices just burst out!

The pork jowl, which I personally love, was grilling up really well too. I actually like pork jowl more than pork belly^^

Is Hwarou Dadaepo good for family gatherings and group dinners?

Hwarou Dadaepo satisfied all three: ocean view, tasty meat, and friendliness plus cleanliness. This Dadaepo BBQ spot ticks all three boxes (ocean view, meat quality, friendly and clean).
