Wood-fired pizza restaurant in Cheonan: Napoli Shinbu’s calzone salad

In short

Napoli Shinbu is a wood-fired pizza restaurant behind Cheonan Intercity Bus Terminal, facing the Sinaecheon walking path. My girlfriend and I had guanciale pizza, calzone salad, and fries; the mild pizza and salad stuffed into bread stood out, though parking was disappointing.

While looking for a Western-style restaurant in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan, I went to Napoli Shinbu (나폴리신부) behind the intercity bus terminal. My girlfriend and I had guanciale pizza, calzone salad, and fries; the mild flavors and generous salad stayed with me.

Where is Napoli Shinbu, and what is parking like?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 46 Bangjukan 3-gil, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, South Korea. With the Sinaecheon walking path right in front, it seemed like a nice place to stop after a short walk.

What was the interior with large windows like?

The interior was compact, pleasant, and clean.

My favorite part was the large, open windows. Looking out over the Sinaecheon area made the meal feel less enclosed.

What did the guanciale pizza taste like?

We ordered guanciale pizza, calzone salad, and a side of fries. The table was neatly set with tableware and house-made pickles.

The guanciale pizza came out freshly baked from the wood-fired oven. On my first bite, its mild flavor came through before anything intense.

If you are used to stronger flavors, it may seem a little bland. I liked that the ingredients’ natural flavors became more noticeable as I ate.

How large was the calzone salad, and how did I eat it?

I was surprised by the size of the bowl as soon as the calzone salad arrived. Served in a bowl about the same size as a whole pizza beside it, it felt very generous.

It was my first time trying this dish, so I initially ate the bread and salad separately, and the combination did not quite click. At my girlfriend’s suggestion, I tore off some bread and filled it generously with salad, which changed the experience.

The mild, nutty bread went well with the tangy salad dressed in lemon oil. For my taste, it was much better stuffed into the bread than eaten separately.

How were the fries on the side?

The fries we ordered to snack on during the meal were thin-cut. Crisp outside and moist inside, I reached for them more often than expected. They were an unexpectedly memorable side among what we ate that day.

Was it a good date meal in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan?

We enjoyed the view through the large windows along with mild wood-fired pizza and a generous calzone salad. Parking was a drawback, but I thought it could work well for a date if you are combining a walk along the Sinaecheon with a meal.
