Yangjae tart shop, walnut tart & matcha cream pie: Hodu Kkakki
In short
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) is a takeout-only organic tart shop near Exit 4 of Yangjae Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer, a repeat visitor, brought home a whole walnut tart (30,000 won), a pecan pie and a matcha cream pie to share with family, and the Hodu Kkakki Brothers pecan pie impressed them even more than the walnut pie. With no seating, Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a Yangjae dessert shop best suited to picking up tarts as a gift.

I stopped by Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) in Yangjae. This is already my nth visit! Their organic tarts use honey, oligosaccharide syrup and maple syrup instead of sugar, and they're so good that courier orders keep going out all over the country.
It had been a while, so I bought a walnut tart, a pecan tart and a matcha cream tart to eat with my family. They were delicious, so I want to share a review with you all.

Just so you know!
Exterior and interior: is there anywhere to sit?

Right by Yangjae Station and so easy to reach, Hodu Kkakki Brothers has long been one of the dessert spots people love around here. The exterior looks a little like a toy store.

Inside there are no seats at all, and the view in the photo is all there is. You might be disappointed you can't sit and eat, but it's better to think of it as a gift shop.
Hodu Kkakki Brothers menu and walnut tart price

The menu at Hodu Kkakki Brothers is all kinds of pies. You can also take drinks to go.

That day I went to buy a whole walnut pie. The other items here are good too, but it's hard to beat the classic walnut tart. A whole tart is ₩30,000 for walnut.

Just the walnut pie would have been fine, but since it had been a while, I decided to take home some other tarts too.

There were so many desserts, but I picked one each of the matcha cream pie and the pecan pie, which looked delicious that day.

I took this while waiting for my order. The Dubai series is still popular, huh? I'll try it next time!

Thanks for the food! :D
Hodu Kkakki Brothers courier info and how to store the pies

I carried the tarts home carefully to taste them.

Before that, let's read the Hodu Kkakki Brothers creed~

Let's read the courier notice too. Food like Hodu Kkakki Brothers tarts is sold chilled, so they say it can be harder to keep them in good condition as summer goes on. Cream pies are only available in store or by delivery.
- Regular pies: within 7 days refrigerated, within 30 days frozen
- Cream pies: within 2 days

How did the walnut, pecan and matcha cream pies taste?
Now let's eat. With a whole walnut tart plus the pecan and matcha cream pies laid out, it looked like pizza and sides, and just seeing it made me feel full of confidence.

Walnut pie: not too sweet, generously filled
The walnut pie caught my eye first.

I had the walnut pie as an afternoon snack. With milk instead of coffee, for extra nutrition!

Mmm~ Strangely, the quality at Hodu Kkakki Brothers seems to get better every day. The walnut pie I had this time was fresher and tastier than ever. The filling isn't very sweet and is packed in generously, so I was happy.

Matcha cream pie: rich even on its own
The next day I tried the pecan pie and the matcha cream pie. The matcha cream pie was my first time, and the matcha cream is surprisingly rich. Even eating just the cream without the pie, you get a full flavor. They say matcha is trendy, and they make trendy things well~
Pecan pie: even more impressive than the walnut
Next is the pecan pie. Eating the Hodu Kkakki Brothers pecan pie after a long time, I was even more impressed than by the walnut pie. It was really delicious. The light crispness and nutty richness work so well together! No wonder pecans are such an expensive nut.
Final thoughts on Hodu Kkakki Brothers, a Yangjae dessert favorite
Maybe because it had been a while, I enjoyed these Hodu Kkakki Brothers desserts even more. Next time I'll probably get the half pecan, half walnut tart. Look forward to my next review!
