Suwon fish restaurant, mackerel trio with mini jeyuk: Godeungeo
In short
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점) is a wood-fired grilled fish and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. On an autumn night, her third visit, the writer ordered grilled mackerel, mackerel sushi and mackerel mulhoe, with self-bar banchan (side dishes) and the mini jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) served as standard. With wood-fired mackerel that has no fishy smell and generous mulhoe, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is worth returning to for family meals or group gatherings.

Why a third visit to Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch?
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점) is a grilled fish restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, and this was already my third visit. One autumn night, when grilled fish was exactly what I was craving, I went again. It's my "again, again, again" restaurant!
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon: location, hours and parking

- Parking: a parking lot right in front of the restaurant, and it's spacious, so parking is easy haha
The seats at the Suwon branch are nicely spaced out, with tables for all kinds of party sizes, so it works well for groups or a family meal.

What side dishes are at the Godeungeo self-serve bar?
The self-bar has a variety of banchan (side dishes), including japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), doraji muchim (seasoned bellflower root), chamnamul (seasoned greens) and oi sobagi (stuffed cucumber kimchi), and you can take as much as you like, which I really loved.

The japchae, doraji muchim, chamnamul and oi sobagi are total favorites of mine. They're nutty, never get boring, and are just so good.
Next to the banchan there's sikhye (sweet rice drink), so I had a glass of the sweet stuff before the meal to get my appetite going!! There was also miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) to warm up an empty stomach. Well prepared, right??

Wood-fired grilled mackerel: crispy, juicy and not fishy
This time at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch I ordered three things: grilled mackerel, mackerel sushi and mackerel mulhoe. Just like last time...

The miyeok-guk was warm and really good, and nutty too. The mackerel is cooked in a wood-fired oven, so it came out very crispy outside and moist inside.

There was no off smell at all. The mackerel was soft and rich, so even people who can't eat grilled fish because of the fishy smell could enjoy it happily.

I gently picked off a bit of the moist white flesh and tasted it. The skin was super crispy and the flesh was springy, so delicious.
The japchae and chamnamul were so good that it's hard to believe they're just free banchan. The japchae was nicely seasoned, perfect with rice.

Lots of older customers were there too, and of course there's a reason. Where the food is good, the people come!!

How were the mackerel sushi and the free mini jeyuk?
Here come the mackerel sushi and mackerel mulhoe!! Beside them is the mini jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) that comes as standard, and it's great to enjoy so many flavors at once.

The mackerel on the sushi is nicely thick, topped with sharp wasabi that goes well with the rice.

The mackerel mulhoe has mackerel sashimi, octopus, abalone and assorted raw fish. There's a lot of it, and for this price it's such a bargain that I was happy.

As expected, the jeyuk was never-a-miss.. just pure deliciousness. It comes as standard?! I admit, this is a great restaurant... It's my again-again-again place!
Isn't the color of the mackerel sushi gorgeous?? The right amount of fat spreads richly in your mouth, and the wasabi cuts the oiliness perfectly, so it just keeps disappearing into my mouth.

Mackerel mulhoe: how to finish it with somyeon noodles
I started by mixing the cold mackerel mulhoe thoroughly, swish swish.

The broth is sweet and tangy, and with the raw fish and all kinds of seaweed inside it was seriously good. I'm going back again just for this!!

After eating a good amount, I added somyeon (thin wheat noodles) to the broth, and this is mulhoe heaven. This is the taste, this is it!!

Who should eat at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch?
If you're looking for a grilled fish and mulhoe place in Suwon that's great for families and perfect for group gatherings, I wholeheartedly recommend Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch!! It's my again-again-again place!
