Paju Simhaksan drive café: never-frozen mango bingsu, Fruit Forest

In short

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store (과일의숲 파주직영점) is a three-floor fruit dessert café at the foot of Simhaksan on Doljoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. The writer and her husband stopped at Fruit Forest during a Simhaksan drive and ordered the signature fresh mango snow bingsu (32,000 won, serves 2–3). The boxes of fresh mango stacked at the entrance and the fruit in the giant fridge raised their hopes, and the fresh, never-frozen mango never got tiresome to the last bite. With pets allowed and a spacious parking lot, Fruit Forest is a dessert stop worth recommending on a Paju drive.

A while ago my husband and I went for a drive around Simhaksan in Paju, and since it was hot and we were getting peckish, we were craving something cold and sweet, so we headed to this place haha

It's Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store (과일의숲 파주직영점), which is apparently the hot spot for mango bingsu (Korean shaved ice) in Paju right now! As a total fruit lover I was wowed from the entrance, and the portion was huge and the mango quality was amazing, so I left super satisfied. Here's my review haha

Stacked fresh mango boxes at the door and a giant fridge full of fruit

The moment I walked in, the piles of fresh mango boxes stacked high by the entrance caught my eye! So many mangoes... just looking at them made me happy T_T I wish this place were my home!

On top of that, a huge fridge was packed with all kinds of fresh fruit: pineapple, melon, orange, peach, plum, blueberries and more, and just looking at it felt refreshing! It's been a while since I've seen so much fresh fruit gathered in one place haha

Fruit lovers, I'm just going to lie down right here...

Window-wall interior and terrace seats: who is it good for?

The inside of the café is also very spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows that give it a tremendous open feel haha It was summer vacation season, so most of the customers were families.

There are outdoor terrace seats and lots of comfy seating too, so it's perfect for families, group gatherings, or a date like ours. It easily earns a spot on any list of nice Simhaksan cafés!

Fresh mango snow bingsu for ₩32,000: what's in it?

We ordered Fruit Forest's signature fresh mango snow bingsu (₩32,000, for 2–3 people). The menu is packed with dazzling fruit desserts like peach snow bingsu, melon snow bingsu and a 10-fruit mixed bingsu, but we had only one goal! Since we'd come to the holy land of Paju mango bingsu, we ordered without a second thought haha

Fresh mango snow bingsu on the table

As soon as it came out, my heart bounced at the sight... ripe yellow fresh mango is heaped on top so generously it looks like it's about to spill over!

  • Plenty of chunky fresh mango
  • Nutty cheesecake pieces
  • A big scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • Rich mango syrup served separately

A look I'd want as my KakaoTalk profile picture... how are you supposed to resist mango bingsu in summer!

Fresh, not frozen mango: how did it taste?

Fruit Forest's fresh mango snow bingsu uses fresh mango that melts in your mouth, not frozen mango, so I never got tired of it to the very end. Taking a big spoonful of tangy-sweet vanilla ice cream, melt-away snow ice and ripe fresh mango, happiness just burst through my whole mouth T_T

Spoonful of fresh mango and snow ice

The big pieces of cheesecake add a nutty richness, and when you drizzle on the mango syrup that comes alongside, the sweetness gets even deeper!

The quality is among the best of any bingsu I've ever had, so I fully admit it's a top mango bingsu spot in Paju. Admitted, admitted!

The mango was already sweet enough that I barely needed the mango syrup that came with it haha

They pile on fresh fruit without holding back, so anyone who loves desserts is bound to fall for this place haha

Bingsu bowl shared by two

Is the portion enough for two?

They said the fresh mango snow bingsu serves 2–3 people, but my husband and I devoured it as a pair, haha. Seriously satisfied!

With its open window-wall views, spacious interior and unbeatable fruit quality, this Simhaksan dessert café has me planning a return soon to work through the other fruit bingsu! If you're driving around Paju or craving something cold and sweet, definitely visit Fruit Forest, a top Paju bingsu spot haha
