Why I picked Uldong Bossam for a dining-out meal on my diet
Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈) is a newly opened bossam spot in Gyodong, Daegu, right beside the Dongin annex of Daegu City Hall. Choosing a restaurant meal while dieting isn't easy, but boiled pork bossam, which is neither fried nor grilled, was today's pick! I heard a new bossam place had opened in Gyodong with a light but juicy flavor, so I rushed right over.
Bossam is a healthy soul food Koreans of every age love, and I ate it along with a minari (water dropwort) pancake. Here comes my honest review~~
Where do you park at Uldong Bossam?

There's no parking at the restaurant itself. Use the paid City Hall Plaza parking lot, a 1-minute walk away. Considering this is Dongseong-ro, the fee is really cheap haha. By public transport, it's within a 10-minute walk from Jungangno Station on Line 1.
Uldong Bossam has a charming brick exterior, and the fresh green plants go nicely with the red brick. There's also a space where you can sit and wait.
Inside Uldong Bossam and the counter seats for solo diners
Maybe because it hasn't been open long, the clean wood interior won me over right away. I went at the 11am opening, so I could take photos at leisure haha. There are aprons and hangers for your clothes too.
Group reservations can be made in advance through Naver Reservation. There are private spaces separated by partitions, so it looked suitable for group gatherings.
It's also perfect for eating alone in Gyodong, with counter seats so you can eat without worrying about those around you. Lots of people from nearby government offices and companies seemed to come for lunch.

Uldong Bossam menu and prices

A bossam set for one is a whopping ₩10,900!! Even adding extra meat is only ₩12,900. There's a stereotype that bossam is expensive, so I loved that you can enjoy it this cheaply as a set for one.

We ordered the small bossam for two. It's ₩29,000! If you order it as a single item you have to order rice separately, but you get more meat and wrap vegetables come with it. haha
The pancakes are popular here too, with a minari pancake and a potato pancake. Honestly potato pancake is more my taste, but I'm dieting these days, so minari pancake it was haha. It's very cheap at ₩9,000!!

Drinks and alcohol are sold too. Seeing the pancake made me crave makgeolli (rice wine), but I held back lol

Cold water! No, actually tea haha. I love details like this haha
The small set spread at Uldong Bossam: wraps, side dishes, kimchi stew

When you order the small bossam, the vegetables and side dishes are served first. Vegetables and sides that go with bossam, plus the seasonings, come with a deeply flavored kimchi stew haha

Fresh wrap vegetables and side dishes!! The ultimate diet meal, there's no way you could gain weight lol
A mortar and sesame seeds come out too. Grind them evenly, add soy sauce, and dip. The sesame soy sauce went surprisingly well with the bossam!! Grinding it yourself was fun haha
How did the bossam taste at Uldong Bossam?

Soon after, the small bossam came out! It's for two people. The minari pancake arrived too haha. Looks delicious..

This whole spread is under ₩30,000, which is amazing for today's prices.

The small set comes with a good mix of pork belly, lean meat and pork jowl, so picking and choosing was fun. Alongside were freshly tossed radish kimchi (mu saengchae), onion, minari and chili peppers.

A huge minari pancake that's hard to believe is only ₩9,000. It was fried thin and crisp haha

Chojang (sweet chili sauce) and soy sauce come as the basic sauces. And the rice I ordered separately!!
I first tried bossam with the radish kimchi. I don't know how they boiled the meat, but it wasn't dry at all, just tender and delicious. No gamey smell whatsoever, and with the fresh radish it was a perfect match, like they were meant to be one dish.
Shrimp minari pancake and kimchi stew
The minari pancake studded with shrimp is amazing dipped in chojang ㅠ_ㅠ It's thin rather than thick but cooked nice and crisp. The fragrant minari aroma came through, which made it even better.
A rich kimchi stew with pork, tofu and more haha I'm on a diet so I only had a few spoonfuls ㅠㅠ but it was so good.....

Each cut has its own chew!! It was my first time trying pork jowl bossam, and it was chewy and delicious haha

I wrapped it in the vegetables, wrapped it in the minari pancake, and dipped it in the sesame soy sauce. Today is a protein-boost day, yay. I was surprised how well the minari pancake and bossam go together. Come to think of it, there's a reason minari with pork belly is famous!!
All finished haha hehe. The last spoonful of rice I left is my own little mark that I'm on a diet.. (lol)
Dessert at Uldong Bossam: plum tea

Uldong Bossam in Gyodong serves cold plum tea (maesil-cha) as dessert haha. Old-fashioned interior and light-tasting bossam! If you're craving unusual minari pancake and potato pancake~~ I recommend it! Recommended for solo meals in Gyodong, family gatherings and dates.
