Café in Paju Unjeong before a long drive: lemonade to go, Pound Coffee
In short
Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch is a café in Unjeong (Dongpae-dong), Paju, that sells coffee alongside baked sweets. Before a 2-hour drive home, the writer and her boyfriend took away an iced americano, a lemonade and financiers; the owner's recommendations made choosing easy, and the coffee was nutty and rich. Verdict: Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch is a handy takeout stop in Unjeong for coffee and baked sweets, better than a highway rest area on the way home.

Today I'm introducing Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch (파운커피 운정 본점), which I found while looking for a Paju Unjeong café to stop at after a meal with my boyfriend :) We had a long drive ahead, so I wanted takeout coffee and something to nibble on, and I searched around and found a place that has baked sweets too! The visit turned out to be a happy one, with nutty coffee and a kind owner. Let's get right into it!

Parking and opening hours at Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch
Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch is open daily from 11am to 8pm, and you can park flexibly in the spots right in front or along the street nearby. It's not far by car from Yadang Station (야당역), where we had lunch. We got lucky and there was a space right at the door, so we parked and walked straight in. Since it's open every day, drop by whenever you feel like a coffee.

The vibe at Pound Coffee Unjeong on a weekend afternoon
We visited at 12 on a weekend, around lunchtime, and it was already so full I wondered if it was really lunchtime? There were people working on laptops by the window and small group gatherings too. The open layout lets you watch drinks being made, which is fun, and the first impression was how clean it felt. There seemed to be lots of long-time regulars too, so you can feel the warmth between the owner and the customers 😀

How I picked baked sweets to eat in the car
The baked goods case was full of financiers (small buttery almond cakes) of all kinds, led by the lemon madeleine, and when I hesitated the owner gave me recommendations. I started by choosing the sweets to snack on in the car; there were so many kinds and they all looked delicious, so I agonized quite a bit, but thanks to the owner I picked faster than expected. The financiers are reasonably priced, so I picked some for my mom too.

Drink menu and choice of beans
The drink menu isn't huge; it has just what you need, with nothing extra. You can choose between 2 coffee beans, so I asked for the nutty one and sat down to wait.

Gift packaging for baked sweets is available too
Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch also offers packaged gift sets in a mini box, basic box or shopping bag, so keep it in mind if you're buying baked sweets as a gift.

Tray service even for takeout: they really care about drinks
Our takeout baked sweets, iced americano and lemonade came out, and Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch brings them on a tray to both dine-in and takeout customers, how kind! I happened to see the drink being made while waiting, and it looked like they scooped from a separate container of what seemed to be homemade lemon syrup! Someone also seemed to be testing coffee off to one side, so I could tell they're serious about coffee and drinks. I found this Unjeong café by chance, and I was glad I came.

Terrace seats and the park right outside
Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch has terrace seats, and there's a park right in front, so you can take your coffee to go and enjoy it there. The fresh green sky and trees were really pretty that day, and next time I revisit I want to tour the whole park too.

The 2-hour drive home: how were the iced americano and lemonade?
The iced americano was cold and strong, and the lemonade was sweet and sour and so good. The way home was about a 2-hour drive, and I'd been wondering whether to stop at a rest area, but finding a great coffee place and getting takeout was a win!

Garlic and nut financiers, and my mom's reaction
The financiers I shared with my mom at home vanished in one sitting. The garlic financier tastes just like garlic bread, and the one with nuts is nutty with a great texture, so I'd recommend it as a snack that older folks won't have strong opinions about either way. I found out later that it's also known as a latte spot in Unjeong, so next time I'll try the iced café latte! I recommend Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch.
