Cheongdam brunch restaurant with Montblanc cream pasta: 37.5 Signature

37.5 Signature Cheongdam is a brunch restaurant on the 2nd floor near Exit 7 of Cheongdam Station (Line 7) in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekend visit with her husband, the writer ordered the Montblanc cream pasta (₩24,900), served inside a large Montblanc bread, and the cube steak pilaf (₩23,900), topped with cubes of beef top blade steak. Both portions were generous. With a white interior and well-spaced tables, 37.5 Signature Cheongdam made a satisfying weekend brunch for a couple.

Yeouido IFC Mall tteokbokki set for a family with a kid: Hyeonseonine

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch (현선이네 프리미엄) is a spicy tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake) snack bar on basement level 2 of IFC Mall in Yeouido, Seoul, along the moving walkway from the subway toward The Hyundai. Two adults and a child walked in with no wait at 4pm on a weekend and shared the 23,000 won Hyeonseon Set (tteokbokki, fritters, sundae, gimbap) at medium spice; the portion was plenty, but medium was spicier than expected. Because a spice-shy child can still eat the sundae (Korean blood sausage), fritters and gimbap, the Hyeonseon Set at Hyeonseonine was a satisfying family snack meal.

Macheon-ro bakery café for a four-item bread haul: Grid Cafe

Grid Cafe is a bakery café on Macheon-ro near Ogeum Station in Songpa, Seoul. Because of an appointment there was no time to sit down, so four items went home instead: cream salt bread, pizza ciabatta, a plain egg tart and a chocolate tart, some reheated and some frozen for later. The cream salt bread and the egg tart were good enough to buy again at Grid Cafe, while the Fritz-bean coffee is left for the next visit.

Gangnam pork belly BBQ with grilled white kimchi: Sansol Sinnonhyeon

Sansol Sinnonhyeon is an aged-pork Korean BBQ restaurant about 165m from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 3 in Gangnam, Seoul. The order was two servings of aged pork belly plus mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, grilled from start to finish by the staff, and the baek-kimchi (white kimchi) seared on the grill at the end cut cleanly through the richness. With partitioned seating and downdraft ventilation, Sansol Sinnonhyeon lets you eat without worrying about the smoke smell.

Uijeongbu city-awarded dakgangjeong in a divided box: Dalgom's

Dalgom's is a dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy fried chicken) shop inside Jeil Market in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, picked as the city's No.1 dakgangjeong and given an 800,000 won prize by Uijeongbu City Hall. A 1.5-chicken order costs 24,000 won and came as three flavors — honey, sweet-spicy and Bburinkle — each in its own compartment of a divided box, fried to order in about 5 minutes. Dalgom's kitchen was far cleaner than expected, which made it an easy choice for chicken to share with a child.
