My younger sibling said they were craving jokbal, so we headed to Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch (청담족발 광교상현점) for dinner. Ending the day with good food with my younger siblings is always fun. This time we had warm jokbal with cold beer and a really hearty dinner.

How close is Cheongdam Jokbal to Sanghyeon Station?
Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Sanghyeon Station on the Shinbundang Line. It's not far from the station, so it was easy to get to, and the black sign stands out, so it wasn't hard to find.

There are also tables outside the restaurant, which looked like a nice option for eating outdoors when the weather is good.

It's a handy spot if you're looking for jokbal or bossam (boiled pork wraps) around Sanghyeon Station, or want an after-work dinner with coworkers.
Atmosphere: a clean, tidy black interior
The inside of Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch is decorated mainly in black. It feels clean and neat, which made it comfortable to eat in. A jokbal place can make you think of something crowded and chaotic, but this one felt orderly, and I liked that.

It looked good for meals with friends, a family dinner out, or just a casual beer after work to wrap up the day.
Notice: domestic raw pig's feet, boiled the same day
Cheongdam Jokbal says it uses 100% domestic raw pig's feet and, as a rule, boils them in the restaurant every day and sells them the same day. I saw this on a notice posted in the shop. Jokbal is a dish where the texture changes depending on how and at what temperature it's boiled, right? I was also looking forward to the fact that it's served warm.

The menu listed freshly boiled warm jokbal, as well as fire-grilled spicy jokbal, bossam, garlic bossam and more. If you come with a group, you could pick jokbal and bossam to taste or order a set menu.
Is a medium jokbal enough for three people?
The three of us ordered the freshly boiled warm jokbal in medium (₩45,000), and we got comfortably full with food to spare. With beer and cola, the total came to ₩52,000.

At first I wondered whether three people should order the large. Since I had no idea how much food it would be, I went with the medium.

But when the food arrived, it was more generous than I expected.

It was enough for three people to get full with some left over, so I was glad I chose the medium. Best of all, ordering jokbal in the restaurant comes with a free bowl of makguksu. You get tangy-sweet noodles as well as jokbal, so the table felt even fuller.
What side dishes come with Cheongdam Jokbal?
Along with the warm jokbal came kimchi geotjeori (fresh kimchi), seasoned dried radish, chili pepper, carrot, cucumber, garlic, ssamjang (wrap sauce) and salted shrimp, plus a warm bean sprout soup.

With the free makguksu added, the table looked satisfying just to look at.

I especially liked that the variety of wrap vegetables and side dishes let you enjoy the jokbal in lots of ways. I dipped a piece lightly in salted shrimp, and I also put garlic and sauce on lettuce and perilla leaves to make wraps. Even the same jokbal tastes different depending on what you eat it with, which makes it fun.
The free makguksu with jokbal
The free makguksu at Cheongdam Jokbal Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Branch was packed with lettuce, cabbage and perilla leaves, with plenty of seasoning and sesame, so it looked delicious. I first mixed it well so the sauce coated everything, then ate it with a piece of jokbal. Chewy jokbal and tangy-sweet noodles go together really well.
While enjoying the richness of the jokbal, a bite of makguksu freshens up your mouth, so it was nice to alternate. The noodles are tasty on their own, but with jokbal the meal felt much richer. I was even happier that a bowl comes free without ordering noodles separately.

Warm jokbal wrapped in lettuce and perilla leaves
Now for the jokbal itself. I spread out lettuce and perilla leaves, put a piece of jokbal on top, and added salted shrimp, garlic and sauce.

Adding chili pepper gave a spicy kick, and cucumber or carrot added a crunchy texture. We asked for a bit more vegetables and sauce, and they gave us plenty, so we never ran short. Small things like that made the meal comfortable.
The kimchi geotjeori and seasoned dried radish were especially good, and I kept reaching for them with the jokbal. They work well in wraps and also as a side when eating jokbal on its own.
An evening with my siblings and a glass of beer
While enjoying the jokbal, a cold beer was a must. With warm jokbal and beer, the day's fatigue seemed to melt away bit by bit. Chatting about this and that with my siblings and eating slowly made the food taste even better.

Jokbal is great for sharing, so it seems well suited to family gatherings, dinners with friends and company dinners. Even though three of us ordered the medium, there was plenty and we enjoyed it to the last bite. I thought I'd like to try other dishes next time.
