Aged sashimi platter at Momo, a Dangye-dong izakaya bar in Wonju
In short
Momo is a room-style izakaya bar on Jangmigongwon-gil in Dangye-dong, Wonju, built around aged sashimi. It sits about a 7-minute walk from the express bus terminal, so it works well as a second stop after dinner, and the aged assorted sashimi platter at 49,000 won and curry udon at 10,000 won were the order, with tuna and raw shrimp the standout picks. Partitioned seats and low lighting make Momo an easy place for two people to share a quiet bottle of soju.

Hi, I'm Hijin, a travel influencer. A close friend of mine lives in Wonju, Gangwon, so I go visit for a day of drinks now and then. After warming up with hot yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and soju for round one, I went looking for a Danggye-dong bar in Wonju for round two and found Momo, an izakaya famous for its aged sashimi. Even outside the private rooms, every seat had partitions for private conversation, so I got to enjoy sashimi and soju comfortably — here's my honest review :)
Where is Momo in Wonju, and is there parking?

Momo, the Danggye-dong izakaya bar in Wonju, is about a 7-minute walk from the express bus terminal, so it's very accessible — and close to the hotspot area, perfect for a round-two stop after eating somewhere nearby first.

There's no parking support, so I'd recommend coming by public transit so you can relax and drink without worrying about your car.
Momo's private rooms, atmosphere and why you should book ahead

This is a popular Wonju bar with plenty of regulars, so worried there wouldn't be a table, I booked ahead — and sure enough, once they confirmed my reservation name, they seated us right away.

The rooms fit anywhere from 2 to 4 people, and the group seating area can hold up to 10. Larger groups tend to fill up faster, so if you're looking for a Danggye-dong izakaya in Wonju that can host a group, I'd recommend booking as early as possible.

We were seated by the window, and the view outside was styled to feel like nature(?) — it honestly gave off upscale Japanese restaurant vibes, which I loved 👍
What's on the menu at Momo

Momo, the room izakaya bar in Danggye-dong, Wonju, mainly serves aged sashimi alongside a wide range of Japanese-style bar snacks — sashimi, grilled dishes, soups, stir-fries, and more. There were so many delicious-looking options that I could barely stop myself from ordering everything 😂
They also have a variety of sides and rice/noodle dishes ready, so even if you came for round one, there's plenty to fill up on. Next time, I think it might be worth doing both round one and round two right here.
They stock popular drinks like soju and beer as well as Japanese whisky and sake, so you can pair those fancy snacks with a nice drink too, right?!
Aged assorted sashimi platter, 49,000 won: how was it?

Right after ordering, they brought out the basic setup — otoshi (small starter snack) of slightly yuzu-flavored pickled radish and a quail egg konjac braise(?).

Aged assorted sashimi platter (₩49,000). This is the most popular snack menu item at Momo, the Danggye-dong room izakaya bar in Wonju that we chose. It's made up of about 10 different kinds of fish, and being this generous and satisfying for around 40,000 won felt like amazing value 👍

It was packed with a variety of fish — flounder, sea bream, salmon, tuna, herring, octopus, abalone, and more — though they mentioned the lineup can shift a bit depending on seasonal availability.

The tuna especially was insane — I usually like red-fleshed fish and have tried tuna at many places, so I'm pretty picky, but this melted in my mouth and practically demanded soju 👍

The raw shrimp was the one dish both my friend and I picked as our favorite. It was so plump the texture alone was amazing, and the savory flavor that spread with each chew still lingers in my memory 👍

The abalone also came neatly prepped, and dipping it generously in chojang (vinegar chili sauce) with a bit of wasabi on top felt like the ocean was alive in my mouth 😂
Curry udon, 10,000 won, with two fried shrimp

Curry udon (₩10,000). We ordered this side dish after getting a bit peckish while chatting over the sashimi. In person the bowl is much bigger than it looks in photos, and it came filled almost to the brim.

I couldn't believe they'd give this much for just 10,000 won,,, 😂 With two thick fried shrimp on top too, we left our little soju party stuffed and satisfied at a great value 👍
Why Momo works as a second stop for drinks in Wonju

The slightly dim lighting was perfect for a round-two hangout, and the staff were all kind, so we left feeling great after visiting Momo, the aged sashimi spot in Danggye-dong.

They were also running a review event — grab a coupon through My Place linked from Naver Maps, write a review, and you'll get a free soju, beer, or tokkuri (sake flask), so make sure to grab that freebie if you visit ✨
