That said, parking is limited to just two spots right in front of the store, and when we arrived they were both already taken, so we had to drive around the block for a bit. There's no guarantee you'll find a spot, so I'd recommend walking over, or just stopping the car briefly while you run in.

What kinds of rice cakes does Suragan Tteokbang sell?

The moment I walked in, I was surprised by how many kinds of rice cake there were.

Inside, the display case was lined with omegi-tteok of every type, so many that I couldn't identify them all. Time flew as I browsed. A staff member told me I could choose the flavors myself, so I picked out a mix of several kinds.

Apparently Suragan Tteokbang's rice cakes can also be ordered by courier delivery. Both chapssaltteok (sticky rice cake) and omegi-tteok are available, so if your travel schedule doesn't quite line up, ordering by courier could work too. Rice cakes spoil fast, so storage can be tricky, haha.

A 20-piece omegi-tteok gift set for 22,000 won

I picked out a 20-piece omegi-tteok gift set for my parents. Sets ranged from 5 pieces up to 50, and since both my parents would be sharing, I went with the 20-piece set.

It cost ₩22,000, and since you can mix and match the flavors as you like, I put together a nice variety. They're individually wrapped, so it looked easy for the two of them to share comfortably, and they could just pull one out at a time, good for eating a little at a time over a longer period too.

How chewy is the rice cake, and how sweet is the red bean?

I was curious so I unwrapped a few and tried them, and the rice cake was really chewy. It chewed nicely without going stringy, and the red bean inside wasn't too sweet, so I kept eating piece after piece without getting sick of it.

What tangerine omegi-tteok tastes like

I was also curious about the tangerine omegi-tteok, and the color was really pretty. The taste had a light hint of tangerine, but overall it felt like regular chapssaltteok! It seemed like it would suit my parents' taste well since they're not big on sweets, so I was glad I picked it.

How to store omegi-tteok at home

Apparently Jeju omegi-tteok keeps better and tastes best longer when refrigerated or frozen rather than left at room temperature, so if you can't finish it right away, freezing it and thawing pieces naturally one at a time seems like a good option.

I'm planning to bring this Jeju omegi-tteok set when I visit my parents this weekend. I thought all Jeju omegi-tteok would taste similar, but it seems the texture and sweetness level actually vary a bit from shop to shop.
