Nohyeong-dong Korean BBQ with free parking and no wait: Jeju Udae

In short

Jeju Udae is a straw-fire udae galbi (thick-cut beef rib) restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport. Booking through Naver meant walking straight into Jeju Udae with no wait, and the meal was straw-fire udae galbi for two plus the signature kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, grilled at the table by staff. Parking in front is tight, but Jeju Udae covers free parking at the Nohyeong paid lot one minute away, so arriving by car is easy.

Why Jeju Udae was our first meal after landing in Jeju

The moment we landed on Jeju Island, hungry, we looked for a restaurant near the airport. We were a bit tired from the flight and wanted to recharge with some good beef. Since our route happened to run through Nohyeong-dong, we picked this restaurant near Jeju Airport for its great accessibility. It's close enough to walk to Dream Tower or Maison Glad Jeju, so the location was perfect. It's a popular spot with a Catch Table walk-in waitlist system, but we had reserved ahead, so we walked straight in without waiting.

Inside Jeju Udae: the dining room and what comes with the meal

Walking inside, the overall toned-down, upscale black interior made an impression. The tables were spaced generously and the atmosphere felt polished — this would work well for a family dinner, a work gathering, or hosting an important guest.

As soon as we sat down, the basic side dishes were set out, and you could tell care had gone into each one.

The beef soup, served bubbling hot in a stone bowl, had a deep, rich flavor, and grillable tortillas came included as part of the basic setting.

Maldon salt, perilla leaf jimichuri, cheongyang chili pesto, garlic sauce, coleslaw, and mu saengchae (radish salad) — all meant to bring out the meat's flavor — made for such a varied lineup that just looking at them made my mouth water.

Straw-fire udae galbi for two and kkakdugi fried rice

We ordered the straw-fire udae galbi (Korean beef rib) for two. After a short wait, it arrived lightly pre-seared over straw fire, and the look of it alone caught our eyes.

It came with thick meat attached to large bones, and a staff member personally placed it on the grill and cooked it for us with real care, making the meal so easy to enjoy. Meat grilled by someone else really is the best, isn't it.

We tried a well-cooked piece plain first, without dipping it in anything, and felt the juices burst in our mouths along with the distinctive smoky flavor from the straw fire.

Next, as instructed, we placed meat dipped generously in garlic sauce onto a lightly grilled tortilla, then added coleslaw and mu saengchae to taste and wrapped it up. This unusual combination of savory and tangy flavors was such a treat that our hands kept reaching for more. Topping it with Maldon salt or perilla leaf jimichuri also tasted clean, so we never got tired of it.

As we were finishing up the meat, we added the signature dessert dish, kkakdugi fried rice. When you order the fried rice, the staff expertly picks the meat still stuck to the udae galbi bones and stir-fries it in on top.

The spicy-sweet, crunchy kkakdugi rice came generously topped with chewy bone meat, and every big spoonful had an incredible texture. The distinctive chewiness and savoriness of the meat off the bone elevated the fried rice's flavor even further, and we scraped the pan clean.

Tableside grilling service and Jeju Udae's unusual side dishes

What made the time here even more memorable was how comfortable the dining experience was. Staff didn't just bring the pre-seared meat — they grilled it to the right doneness the whole way through with expert hands, so we got to enjoy the beef at its most delicious without any burning.

On top of that, going beyond a typical Korean BBQ restaurant's table setting with things like tortilla wraps and perilla leaf jimichuri was really appealing. Even the beef soup, though listed as a basic side, had so much meat in it that the broth's depth was hard to believe. All these small, thoughtful details together added to the satisfaction throughout the meal.

Is Jeju Udae worth a return visit?

From airport accessibility to the quality of the raw meat, the friendliness of the tableside grilling, and the neat basic table setting — this restaurant near Jeju Airport didn't miss a beat. Drivers can also get free parking in front of the restaurant or at the nearby paid lot, so there's no need to worry about parking. It seems like a wonderful choice for kicking off your trip on a good note, or for a hearty meal to ease the sadness of your last day. We'll definitely be back on our next Jeju trip to enjoy the udae galbi and fried rice combo again.
