Marine City Chinese for groups: yuxiang eggplant & ganjajang, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of The Sharp Adelia shopping arcade in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. On a weekend visit right after break time, the writer ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjajang (black bean noodles, 10,000 won), abalone shrimp fried rice (18,000 won) and yuxiang (fish-fragrant) eggplant (22,000 won). All three dishes arrived together and quickly, even with large groups filling the dining room. The firm, chewy ganjajang noodles divided opinion, but the large pieces of yuxiang eggplant and the light fried rice make Bueokgan Chinese worth recommending for a group meal.

Late dinner shabu kalguksu in Busan, last seat, crispy pajeon: Yunujae

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu (윤우재 문현샤브 칼국수) is a shabu-shabu kalguksu restaurant on the 1st floor of Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. On a chilly summer evening, the blogger and a partner took the last open table at Yunujae and ordered red-broth shabu kalguksu for 2 (11,000 won per person) and the crispy seafood pajeon (16,000 won). The meal ran from minari-scented broth to house-made kalguksu noodles and fried rice. Verdict: Yunujae is a great-value Munhyeon-dong spot, and the seafood pajeon is a must-order alongside the noodles.

Haeundae hair salon: semi-curly hairline root straightening, Eco Revi

Eco Revi Hair & Spa Haeundae Centum Branch is a reservation-only hair salon on the 1st floor of the Centum Hotel in Haeundae, Busan. Before an outdoor wedding shoot, the writer had a cut, root straightening and a repair clinic with the head director at Eco Revi Hair & Spa over about 3.5 hours to tame a semi-curly hairline. Because her hair was badly damaged, the plan switched from full straightening to root straightening. Verdict: the semi-curls and frizz were smoothed out, so the wedding shoot went ahead without any curl worries.

Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch is a Japanese home-style restaurant in the 10th-floor dining hall of Lotte Department Store Gwangbok near Nampo Station, Busan, and a branch of the Daidokoro known for its Gwangalli flagship. The writer ordered Set A for two (₩40,500): a kkanpunggi (sweet-spicy fried chicken) set, a chicken nanban set and 4 mini menbosha (shrimp toast), with the rice swapped for soy sauce egg rice. The plump-shrimp menbosha, the crispy-outside, juicy-inside chicken and the milk pudding dessert stood out. Songjeong Korean restaurant for post-swim samgyetang: Namhwajeong

Namhwajeong (남화정) is a Korean restaurant near Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, specializing in samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) made with firewood-grilled chicken. Two of us shared the seafood firewood scorched rice samgyetang (₩39,000 for 2), which came generously loaded with two octopus legs, abalone and shrimp, and the firewood-grilled chicken had a gentle smoky aroma. For a nuttier, richer take on regular samgyetang, Namhwajeong's seafood firewood scorched rice samgyetang is a great summer health-food pick.

Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch is an all-you-can-eat hotpot and lamb skewer restaurant in Jung-gu, Busan, in the alley between Gukje Market and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market. The hotpot-plus-skewer course costs 24,900 won, so the order was a tomato broth and spicy red broth pair, with self-bar meat, skewers and fried rice eaten to the point of being completely full. The charcoal-grilled lamb skewers were good, but the tomato broth at Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi was the best one tried so far.
