Gongdeok Station café: carrot cream cheese madeleine, Fluffy Bake Shop

Fluffy Bake Shop is a baked-sweets café specializing in madeleines and financiers, a 1-minute walk from Exit 2 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a public holiday around 1:30 p.m., on the way to buy a salad, the writer dropped into Fluffy Bake Shop and picked carrot, chestnut, lemon and chocolate madeleines plus financiers; the carrot madeleine, filled with cream cheese and nuts, was still delicious a day later. Fluffy Bake Shop is worth recommending for baked-sweets fans and anyone looking for office thank-you gifts.

Yeongdeungpo bakery café for studying: pecan pie financier, BYWAY

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a large bakery café in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station. Looking for a place to study, the blogger visited on a weekday around 4:30pm, had a croissant, a pecan pie financier and jasmine tea in the café, and took home a wakppu (smash-it-open) salt bread filled with fresh mango (8,500 won) to break apart and eat at home. Most salt breads at BYWAY BAKERS are sold out by late afternoon, but the wakppu salt bread is a must-try: sweet, salty and refreshingly tangy all at once.

Hodukkakki Brothers Bangbae branch is a handmade walnut pie café near Naebang Station in Bangbae-dong, Seocho, Seoul. Hodukkakki Brothers Bangbae is a good walnut pie shop to choose instead of a cake for birthdays or gifts.

Seoul Station brunch café, 9am fig pistachio baguette to go: Dance

Dance Dance Dance Seoul Station is a baguette sandwich brunch shop in the basement of Grand Central at Seoul Station, Jung-gu, Seoul. Remembering the baguettes from a Yeouido pop-up, the writer stopped by Dance Dance Dance at 9am on the way to class and took away the fig pistachio baguette (₩18,900), loving the generous pistachio cream, the honey and the sweet, tangy figs. At ₩18,900 the fig pistachio baguette is pricey, but the taste and portion make up for it, and it is a must-try this fall.

Yongsan salad shop to go: beef perilla and rosé pastas at Prepace

Prepace Diet Food Yongsan is a salad and diet meal shop on the first floor of the Prugio Summit commercial building, between Yongsan Station and Sinyongsan Station in Seoul. Pouring the perilla oil sauce over the noodles and mixing it in was the highlight, and the beef was tender rather than chewy. Prepace Diet Food Yongsan is an easy pick near Yongsan Station for solo dining or takeout.
