Sejong izakaya after work: odor-free special miso motsunabe, Motsumo
In short
Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch is a motsunabe (Japanese offal hot pot) izakaya on Bodeum 3-ro in Dodam-dong, Sejong. After work, the writer ordered the special miso motsunabe (38,000 won) with extra noodles, Asahi draft beer and Saero soju; the broth had no gamey smell at all, and the mentaiko sesame oil sauce cut through the richness. Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch is a Dodam-dong bar worth recommending to anyone who has hesitated over motsunabe because of the smell of daechang (beef large intestine).

I visited Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch, the hottest place in Dodam-dong, Sejong, where you always have to wait for a table. It's a Dodam-dong favorite.

Location and hours of Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch
Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch is at 8-12 Boduem 3-ro, Unit 114, Sejong, and it is open 17:00-01:00.

This is the place! With motsunabe (beef offal hot pot), if the daechang (beef large intestine) is prepped even slightly wrong, it turns greasy and gamey, so it's hard to order unless the restaurant is really good, right?

After work I wanted good snacks and a drink, so I searched for a Dodam-dong bar and Dodam-dong restaurant, saw the high ratings, and ran straight over.

What is the atmosphere at Motsumo Sejong Dodam Branch like?
Motsumo has a cozy interior with soft lighting and an authentic Japanese feel. The moment I walked in, the lights were so pretty that I fell for the mood first.

With its Japanese-local vibe, it's a Dodam-dong bar that's perfect for a date or a relaxed chat with friends.

I heard the owner, who has more than 10 years of experience, prepares the Korean beef daechang, yuchang (beef small intestine) and heart all by hand. I ordered on a tablet.

You even get a free lemon sour for a receipt review 🤍 The staff were all so kind that I felt good the whole time I was there.

I ordered the special miso motsunabe (₩38,000) with extra noodles, Asahi draft beer and saero (soju) (₩5,000).

This is the basic setup.

I ordered a cold, crisp Asahi draft and drank it, and the whole day's tiredness just melted away.

Wait, is this Japan? haha You even get two side dishes, and that mentaiko (pollock roe) + mayo + sesame oil sauce is insane 😭 The sauce is the kicker.
Is the special miso motsunabe really free of gamey smell?
The special miso motsunabe (₩38,000) at Motsumo had not even 1% gamey smell from the very first sip of broth. Ta-da, the special motsunabe has finally arrived!!

The look of neatly trimmed chives piled up like a mountain is amazing, and the combo of rich daechang and deep broth is crazy.

I immediately understood why everyone raves about it as a Dodam-dong, Sejong favorite.

From the first sip there was truly not a trace of gamey smell, just a clean, deep flavor that gave me goosebumps.

The savory fat from the daechang and the deep, clean umami are so full that I couldn't stop spooning it up.

On top of that, besides plump, savory daechang, it's packed with chewy heart and beef brisket, so picking through it was a lot of fun.

I chose the miso flavor and I recommend it~~~

Start with the heart. Chives, napa cabbage and heart together are insane.

There's so much in it that this alone fills me up!!! Plenty of meat, and you can feel the chew of the cabbage and chives too, which makes it even better.

Daechang and heart dipped in mentaiko sesame oil sauce
The mentaiko sesame oil sauce that comes standard at Motsumo is seriously insane. Dunk the savory daechang and chewy heart deep into it, and a salty, nutty flavor explodes in your mouth.
The sauce cuts the richness completely, so I could keep eating forever. I got a refill. The variety is good too. Eating made me crave soju as well haha okay, stopping,,

They refill it with broth haha the more it boils, the tastier it gets. From the look of the neatly trimmed, heaped-up chives to the taste, I immediately understood why everyone raves about it as a Dodam-dong, Sejong favorite.

Is adding noodles the right way to finish motsunabe?
At Motsumo, once you've fished out a fair amount of the ingredients, you absolutely must add noodles. The springy noodles soak up the broth, rich from daechang and vegetable stock, and you'll slurp them down like a storm.
