Friday work dinner Korean BBQ near Magok Station, Seoul: Tamra Factory

In short

Tamra Factory Magok Direct Store is a Jeju raw-pork BBQ restaurant 317 meters from Exit 3 of Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. On a Friday after work the wait was about 20 minutes, and the table ordered two servings of 1% select pork neck for 19,000 won, Korean beef doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) for 10,000 won and a bowl of rice for 1,000 won, with staff checking the grill temperature and cooking the meat so the smoke and smell stayed down. Tamra Factory works well for a small work dinner, but go a little earlier or book ahead to skip the evening peak.

Lately every time I make plans near Magok, I always end up wondering where to eat dinner. This time I tried the pork neck for two at Tamra Factory near Magok Station myself, so let me leave an honest review. Here we go!

It's really easy to reach on foot from Magok Station!! I thought it'd be perfect either for stopping by after work or as a weekend meetup spot.

Walking through the Magok Station food street on my way home Friday just put me in a good mood~~~ Magok is heating up, haha.

The moment I walked in, the neatly kept tables and the friendly staff already put me in a good mood before the food even arrived...!

How long is the wait on a Friday evening?

Going right after work on Friday, the place was full of office workers having dinner together, so I waited about 20 minutes before getting seated!! And the moment I saw the menu, I ordered the 1%-select pork neck for two without hesitation, haha.

What we ordered at Tamra Factory, and what it cost

  • 1%-select pork neck (2 servings) — ₩19,000
  • Korean beef doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean stew) — ₩10,000
  • Rice — ₩1,000
Staff member grilling meat on the grill

Once inside, a staff member was busy grilling meat here and there!!! Their hands moved so fast, I could tell they'd grill it well, haha.

Once our pork neck order went in, they grilled it for us themselves, and we kept chatting while watching to see when ours would be ready, haha. Hungry, so hurry up already!

Korean beef doenjang jjigae worth calling Magok's best stew

The Korean beef doenjang jjigae at Tamra Factory Magok Direct Store is ₩10,000, and it's packed generously with meat and vegetables, so it tasted great and felt totally worth the money... While we were chatting, the doenjang jjigae actually came out before the meat. Doenjang jjigae is the unwritten rule with meat, right? Look how hearty and full it is inside!!

It was the most filling doenjang jjigae I've had recently.

I think I have to call this place a doenjang jjigae spot in Magok?? If they sold it as a lunch menu it'd sell like crazy.

We love mixing rice into doenjang jjigae, so we ordered a bowl of rice and mixed it in ourselves~~~ Definitely order the doenjang jjigae!!

1% select pork neck grilled by the staff

The 1%-select pork neck for two is ₩19,000, and since the meat comes already grilled, you just cook it a little more and eat right away, which meant less smell and easier eating!! They also give you myeolchi jeot (fermented anchovy sauce) on top, but personally I'm not a fan, so I passed~~

Pre-grilled 1%-select pork neck with myeolchi jeot

People usually worry pork neck might be dry, but there was none of that — it was savory with a satisfying, springy chew!! The staff checked the grill temperature before putting the meat on, and as it cooked, that savory smell slowly rose up. So good.

Which side vegetables come with the pork?

There were various vegetables to wrap the meat with, like myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), radish wraps, lettuce and more!! I especially love wrapping meat in radish, and when I asked for more, they kindly brought extra, haha.

Gotta wrap it up nicely~~~

There were lots of ways to wrap it, and the light, tangy flavors went really well with the pork neck, haha.

Is Tamra Factory Magok worth it for a work dinner?

Overall, this was a place where meat quality, service, and atmosphere all clicked together satisfyingly. If I worked nearby, I feel like I'd come every week?! If you're looking for a proper pork samgyeopsal or pork neck spot near Magok, I'd recommend this without hesitation. There can be a wait during the dinner peak, so it's best to go a little early or make a reservation~~
