Pho shop near Sungshin Women's Univ.: towering toppings, Mibundang

Mibundang Sungshin Women's University Branch (미분당 성신여대점) is a pho restaurant in an alley about a 10-minute walk from Exit 1 of Sungshin Women's Univ. Station in Seongbuk, Seoul. The writer ordered the brisket-flank-tendon pho, topped with brisket, flank and tendon. The toppings and bean sprouts were piled so high they nearly toppled, extra noodles were free, and the broth was deep and refreshing in a way that suits Korean tastes. Thanks to its quiet atmosphere, Mibundang Sungshin Women's University Branch is an easy pho spot for eating alone.

Seongsu pastry boutique, no wait on a Wednesday: Noix, Notldun

Notldun (노틀던) is a pastry boutique near the Seoulsup tennis courts in Seongdong, Seoul, and the first shop of a chef who appeared in episode 1 of Chunha Jebang, a Korean baking competition show. On a weekday Wednesday at around 4 pm, the writer walked into Notldun with no wait and ordered the signature Noix, a pistachio madeleine and an iced americano. The Noix had a refined sweetness that was never too sweet, plus several textures. If you want desserts that are hard to find at other cafés, Notldun is worth a visit.

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu (빌라드블루 성수) is a white-and-blue Mediterranean restaurant in an alley near Seoulsup and Ttukseom Station in Seongdong, Seoul. On a Wednesday at 2pm, booked through Naver Reservation, the writer ordered Polvo Mambo (octopus with romesco sauce), aligot cheese lasagna and abalone squid ink risotto, and Billadeubeulleu Seongsu was full even on a weekday. With its atmosphere, good food and reasonable prices, Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is a solid pick for brunch or a date near Seoulsup.

Dobong lash lift salon: no-glue C curl for sensitive eyes at Belleyoon

Belleyoon Ssangmun is a no-glue lash lift salon near Exit 1 of Ssangmun Station in Dobong, Seoul. The writer had lashes left messy by a slight inner double eyelid reshaped with a design moisture lift in a C curl; despite dry, sensitive eyes there was no stinging, and the curl stayed untwisted long afterward. Belleyoon Ssangmun is a good pick for anyone whose sensitive eyes make a lash lift feel risky.

Weekday dinner conveyor sushi at Nowon Station: tuna loin, Sushi Ianen

Sushi Ianen Nowon Station is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant charging a flat ₩1,990 per plate, on the 3rd floor of a building on Nowon Culture Street in Nowon, Seoul. Two of us visited around 8 p.m. on a weekday, joined the Catchtable waitlist, and ate 22 plates, combining belt sushi with requested tuna loin, yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) tataki and tako wasabi. Because requested plates cost the same ₩1,990, Sushi Ianen is an easy, affordable pick for everything from fresh raw fish sushi to dessert.

Hyehwa Taiwanese restaurant, low-spice beef noodles: Cheonghwawon

Cheonghwawon Daehangno Branch (청화원 대학로점) is a Taiwanese and Chinese restaurant in Daehangno, Jongno, Seoul, occupying a two-story standalone building about a 5-minute walk from Hyehwa Station Exit 4. The writer ordered Cheonghwawon's signature beef knife-shaved noodles, shumai topped with flying fish roe and crispy yurinki (fried chicken with soy-vinegar sauce), and found the beef noodles' spices mild enough to enjoy without hesitation. Cheonghwawon is a lunch or dinner spot in Daehangno worth trying even for diners who usually avoid strong spices.

Seoul Station gyukatsu with basement parking, sirloin set: Ichigyu

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant with individual braziers, on the first basement floor of the LG building in Huam-dong, across from Seoul Station. The writer ordered the sirloin gyukatsu set, which comes with two servings of sirloin gyukatsu and two drinks, coated the hot plate with Isigny butter, grilled each piece to the preferred doneness, and found the wasabi-topped sirloin melted in the mouth. Parking is possible in the building's basement garage, but Ichigyu offers no parking validation, so plan ahead.
