Gwanggyo cake café: soft fig slice for mom in a care home, Café Diaz
In short
Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is a fruit cake café in the basement food hall of Galleria Gwanggyo in Suwon, Gyeonggi. After a movie at CGV and dinner, the writer shared a Häagen-Dazs ice cream latte and a grapefruit ade with her husband, then bought a fig cream cake slice (11,900 won) for her mother, who lives in a care home. The Café Diaz fig cake was soft enough for her mother's sensitive teeth, and the writer would buy it again as a gift.

After a meal at a department store, you always crave something sweet. On the day I saw a movie at CGV and had dinner too, I stopped by Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo for coffee and dessert. You can see the cakes and pick them yourself, and enjoy a drink too, so here's my visit report for anyone looking for dessert or a gift cake at Galleria Gwanggyo.

Where is Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo?
Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is in the basement level 1 food hall of Galleria Gwanggyo. The food hall has all kinds of desserts and cafés, and the one I visited today was Café Diaz, known as a go-to cake spot in Gwanggyo!

Choosing from the fruit cakes in the Café Diaz showcase
The first thing that caught my eye at Café Diaz was the cake showcase. The cakes were generously topped with fruit, and the whole fruit cakes were so colorful that just looking at them cheered me up. "Just coffee today" quietly changes into something else in front of the showcase. Can't help it with desserts!

This one is a spoonable fruit cake. It looked good as a simple gift, too. Great as a snack for teachers or to bring on a light picnic~^^ My daughter loves fruit, so I think she'd be thrilled if I brought her one~~^^

Café Diaz fig cream cake: a slice for my mom
My pick that day~!! The fig cake! Figs are a fruit you can only eat in season... and I thought of my mom in the hospital.. so I bought one slice.

The Café Diaz fig cream cake was ₩11,900 a slice. A cake topped with fruit looked pretty enough for a gift, and the next day I took it to my mom in the care home.

Is the fig cake soft enough for parents with sensitive teeth?
Since my mom has sensitive teeth, I pay attention to texture when choosing a cake. The fig cake was soft and sweet, so I figured it would be fine for her. She said "It's delicious," and that made me really happy. My mom is quite elderly and has some dementia symptoms these days, so conversation can be hard, but she seems to perk up and come back to herself only when I bring her something tasty, haha. Anyway, it felt so good to see her enjoying it. I'll bring her one again next time.
I heard Café Diaz cakes are made with domestic eggs. Many places use liquid whole egg from something like a milk carton, so seeing it labeled separately makes me think they choose good eggs~ I always check the shell number when I buy eggs, so this makes me trust them even more.

The fresh cream was soft and tasty, but the fruit was fresh and nicely sweet, which made it even better.

What cakes does Café Diaz have besides fruit cakes?
Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo also has other cakes besides the fruit ones, such as cheesecake and chocolate cake.

It seemed that whole cakes need to be booked in advance.

The cake boxes are pretty too~

Buying a gift cake? Ask about cooler-bag packing
If you plan to bring a Café Diaz fruit cake as a gift, check when ordering whether they can pack it in a cooler bag. The store told me they pack it in a cooler bag for an extra fee. I didn't check the extra cost, so it's best to ask the staff before you pay.
When you buy a cake at a department store, you sometimes ride in a car or stop by other places. In that case, cooler packing would put your mind at ease. The menu also says whole cake prices can vary with the fruit and the season, so if there's a cake you want, check the price and stock at the store first.
They also have very cute, pretty birthday candles, and party items like cone hats and sunglasses. Handy for anyone throwing a last-minute birthday party.

How were the Häagen-Dazs ice cream latte and grapefruit ade?
My husband and I ordered a Häagen-Dazs ice cream latte and a grapefruit ade at Café Diaz that day~ Both drinks were ₩6,900.

There's a wide range of signature lattes.

Häagen-Dazs is my favorite ice cream, and as expected, it was delicious~

The grapefruit ade I drank was juicy and refreshing, full of grapefruit syrup. With the sweet cake, the tangy ade felt like it cleansed my palate, so I was glad I ordered them together. Both the ade and the latte were ₩6,900. See the drink price list below~!

If you're looking for a good dessert spot in Gwanggyo, I recommend Café Diaz~
