I visited Yangnam Yanghwa, the first place that comes to mind when I think of lamb in Mullae. Yeongdeungpo and Mullae are easily connected on foot, so whenever you search for lamb in Mullae, Yangnam Yanghwa always gets mentioned too. It's a dining spot where you can enjoy premium lamb ribs and T-bone steak as a course, so I went in with high expectations.

Head inside the alley and a big wood-toned, roof-shaped awning welcomes you. It gave the place a real upscale dining feel.

The sign says "lamb rib specialty restaurant" along with the hours (12:00–24:00). The logo is in stylish brush lettering, so I spotted it at a glance while walking down the alley.
What are the bar seats like at Yangnam Yanghwa?
The inside of Yangnam Yanghwa is made up of bar tables, and the wood-toned interior feels calm and classy overall.

There's a space under the seats where you can store your luggage. My bags happened to be a bit heavy that day, so this was really handy. The spacing between tables and the seat layout were also fairly roomy, so it was easy to eat comfortably.

Each table has a wood divider, so even though these are bar seats, it feels private, which I liked.

Yangnam Yanghwa menu and lamb course
The menu lists the PREMIUM LAMB DINING along with sides such as seafood ramyeon, bibim-myeon and garlic rice. Please note that extra meat is free and the seating time is 2 hours!
Drinks range from a Suntory highball to various ades and sodas, and the menu also lays out the course: aperitif - premium lamb ribs and T-bone steak - fresh vegetables and fruit - dessert.

The basic table setting comes with pickled radish, pickles, wasabi, ranch sauce, zira (cumin seasoning) and more. The pickles that tame the lamb's distinctive smell and the clean basic sides left an impression.

Once you sit down, you get an aperitif. Mine was a traditional liquor that tasted similar to the lemon gin I often drink. It was zesty and delicious!
How does the staff-grilled premium lamb taste?
At Yangnam Yanghwa, I first ordered the premium lamb dining for two and garlic rice. A staff member flips and grills the meat for you. It arrives already golden from a first sear, and I could see the juices just starting to seep out, which made my mouth water.

Since the staff grill the meat, we could chat away and enjoy the time, which was nice, haha

Suntory highball! It's a classic-tasting highball, and I'd never had lamb with a highball before, but it went together better than I expected?

This was a real treat: garlic rice topped with garlic flakes. I was a little worried the garlic would be too strong, but not at all, haha. Wrapped in seaweed, it had a savory depth, and the crunch of the flakes was great too.
Dip it in the various sauces! The meat wasn't greasy and was cooked just right, so it was really good. And then there were all those sauces too!

While grilling, the staff place the meat on your small plate like this. It tasted a bit like the lamb skewers we get at a yangkkochi (lamb skewer) place, but less chewy, and the juices came through more. It also paired better with salt than I expected.

Does lamb go well with bibim-myeon and seafood ramyeon?
When our first plate was almost done, we ordered bibim-myeon and seafood ramyeon. Because it's meat, the grease had me craving something spicy and sharp, and this pairing was so good... Lamb eaten with the bibim-myeon in particular is truly the best, T_T

Ugh, couldn't resist, one more portion!

Grilled fruit and tangerine sherbet for dessert
In the Yangnam Yanghwa course, as the meat finishes grilling, they also grill cherry tomatoes, pineapple and mushrooms. I love grilled fruit, so I enjoyed it a lot.

When you finish, dessert comes out. It was a sherbet with a slight fresh-tangerine (saenggyul-tangyul) flavor, and it refreshed my greasy stomach with a zesty taste. I thought, what a clever flavor choice 😆
Why Yangnam Yanghwa is worth it for lamb BBQ in Mullae
For anyone looking for lamb in Mullae, I confidently recommend Yangnam Yanghwa's Yeongdeungpo main branch. I could enjoy premium lamb ribs and T-bone steak as a course and compare different cuts, and the sides like bibim-myeon and seafood ramyeon were well put together, so there was never a dull moment.
The copper (Guri) hood sucked up the smoke right away, so grilling was pleasant, and the course ending cleanly with tangerine sherbet made it a well-rounded dining experience overall. If you're looking for proper lamb dining near Mullae or Yeongdeungpo, do visit Yangnam Yanghwa!
