I went to Manpo Galbi in Yangju! Today I'm sharing my review of a visit to Manpo Galbi in Yangju haha. Lately I've been having so much fun eating my way around, and this day I suddenly craved galbi (marinated ribs) grilled over charcoal, so bad lol. So I looked up good galbi places in Yangju and landed on Manpo Galbi!
Meat really does taste best grilled over charcoal, right? 😆 Even while taking photos I kept staring at the meat, dying to eat it lol.

What kind of restaurant is Manpo Galbi in Yangju?
Manpo Galbi is listed as a charcoal galbi, galbitang, and Hamhung naengmyeon restaurant at 65 Songnang-ro in Yangju. The name alone screams galbi restaurant haha.
Inside, the vibe was more relaxed than I expected, with families out for a meal too. I'd gone in with meat firmly on my mind, so I studied the menu the second I sat down 🤣
The menu had Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and meal items like brisket doenjang sulbap, brisket doenjang stew, and Hamhung naengmyeon too, so it looked like a good spot to finish off a meat meal properly.

How was the charcoal-grilled marinated galbi?
The first thing I liked about Manpo Galbi was the charcoal. Honestly, when I go to a meat restaurant I check the charcoal first lol. Once the coals turned red and the grill was set, I knew it was really starting 🤣
Once the meat hit the grill and started sizzling, that smell — you know the one that drives you crazy... I held off a bit for photos, but honestly, forget the photos, I just wanted to eat lolol.

The well-marinated meat was placed on the charcoal and flipped back and forth until golden brown. Marinated galbi burns fast because of the sauce if you're not careful, so flipping it at the right pace really matters!
I cut off a piece of the nicely cooked meat and tried it — the faint charcoal aroma came through along with the marinade flavor, and it was delicious. Galbi really does taste best eaten hot, right off the grill ❤️

What the grilled ribs looked like on the charcoal
The portion looked quite generous when it first came out. The meat was already glistening with marinade before it even hit the grill, and once it was cooked the color turned even more appetizing haha.
We cut the golden-brown meat into bite-sized pieces and ate it one by one, and honestly... this is exactly why people come out for meat lol.

When I eat meat, I prefer it not too dry — a little tender and juicy — and what we had that day was good on that front. Especially with the charcoal aroma added, it really felt different from grilling at home.

How many banchan side dishes come out?
Manpo Galbi's side dishes came in a good variety. Side dishes matter a lot at a meat restaurant, right? I tried each of the ones that came out that day, and I liked how varied they were.
There was salad, seasoned vegetables, shredded radish, and even pickled sides, which all went well with the meat.

Eating only meat can get a bit heavy, but having vegetables or a tangy side dish in between cleanses your palate and makes you want more meat lol. One bite of meat, one bite of side dish, another bite of meat... it never ends 🤣 The seasoned vegetables especially paired well with the meat.

Korean beef yukhoe, 180g for 28,000 won
Eating only galbi at Manpo Galbi felt like it was missing something, so I also ordered the 180g Korean beef yukhoe. Menu price was ₩28,000.
The yukhoe came out arranged neatly in a circle, and it looked prettier than I expected haha. Sesame seeds and vegetables were on top, and the meat was cut into nice bite-sized pieces, so it looked as good as it tasted.

I tried a piece — soft to chew, and the seasoning matched it well. I love yukhoe, so when it shows up I dig in eagerly lol. Alternating between the warm charcoal-grilled galbi and a bite of yukhoe gave a nice contrast — good combo.

Jeon: the savory pancakes were good too
That golden-brown jeon (savory pancake) in the photo! We ate this too, and it was easy to grab a piece of in between meat. The outside was lightly crisped and the inside soft, good as a simple side.
Usually at a meat restaurant you just eat meat and skip everything else, but this day there was so much spread out that I kept reaching for more lol.

The salad that came with the meal
A salad came out too, with lettuce, cabbage, carrot, and bell pepper, topped generously with a savory sauce.
Having some salad in between bites of meat really cleans up your mouth! You do have to eat vegetables along with the meat, right haha. Though of course I ate way more meat than vegetables 🤣🤣

Finishing the meal with Hamhung naengmyeon
I finished the meal at Manpo Galbi with Hamhung naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles). After meat, naengmyeon is basically the unwritten rule, right lolol. So I tried that too.
It had cucumber and toppings with a seasoned style, good for wrapping up after meat. Tastes great eaten alongside a bite of meat, and just as great slurped on its own after finishing the meat haha. I always order naengmyeon at meat restaurants, so I ate it right down to the last bite this time too 😂

How much do the rice and stew dishes cost?
Looking at the Manpo Galbi menu, there was also brisket doenjang sulbap (rice with soybean paste and brisket) at ₩8,000 and brisket doenjang stew at ₩6,000.
If you love rice, eating it alongside the meat sounds great, and finishing off with doenjang stew and rice after meat would be really filling! I'd already eaten so much that day, so next time I'd like to try the doenjang stew or sulbap haha.

Final verdict on Manpo Galbi in Yangju
It had been a while since I grilled meat over charcoal, and it was so nice. Grilling at home is good too, but there's a special fun to sitting at a restaurant with charcoal sizzling away haha.
From the smell of the meat grilling, to watching it turn golden brown, to that first bite... meat really is love.
Beyond just galbi, you can also get Korean beef yukhoe, a wide variety of side dishes, plus jeon and salad, so it's good for a group to share different things. And finishing with naengmyeon at the end left me completely stuffed lolol.

If you're in the Yangju area craving charcoal galbi, or looking for a place for a family dinner or a meal with friends, Manpo Galbi in Yangju might be worth a visit. Next time I'd like to try other menu items too. Thanks for a great meal today. Eating something delicious really is the best kind of happiness lol.
