Eochongye 1beonji near Hwagok Station: the day I took my mom for sashimi

My mom said she wanted sashimi, so for the first time in a while we went together to Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) near Hwagok Station haha. My family loves seafood, so I'm always up for sashimi, lol.

It was a rare date day with my mom and I wanted something tasty, so I did some searching. Among the Hwagok Station sashimi places I found, Eochongye 1beonji had lots of kinds of raw fish plus meal dishes, so it looked like a good fit for going with my mom.

Parking and hours at Eochongye 1beonji

If you drive, you can use the nearby public parking lot, and I heard that after 6 pm you can park at the iron-gate lot at the back. We came by car and used the nearby public lot, so that's a tip for anyone driving.

Eochongye 1beonji is open every day and late into the night, so it also looked like a good option for a sashimi dinner.

The inside of Eochongye 1beonji was spacious, and it looked fine for group visits too.

The menu is really varied!! Next time... I'm going to eat sea squirt (meongge).

What did we order for two? Mini sashimi platter, flounder sushi and a sashimi rice bowl

At Eochongye 1beonji we ordered the mini mixed sashimi platter. Then I added flounder sushi for my mom, who absolutely loves it, and I wanted a sashimi rice bowl (hoedeopbap) so badly that I ordered that too haha.

The magic of two people eating: the menu keeps growing, lol. But we came for sashimi, so we've got to try a bit of everything!

Side dishes at Eochongye 1beonji

The side dishes included seaweed soup, white kimchi, seaweed stem salad, crab and corn salad, garlic and green peas, and there were lettuce wraps ready for wrapping the sashimi. The sides were tidier than I expected, and I liked that the food overall came out neat and clean.

How is the mini mixed sashimi platter with flounder, red sea bream and salmon?

The mini mixed platter had flounder, red sea bream and salmon, and the fish was fresh overall, so I really enjoyed it. The platter has arrived at last! We waited a little and our order came out.

When I eat sashimi I prefer it simple, with just the fish and a few sides rather than a complicated spread, and this meal was exactly that. The flounder was nicely chewy, the red sea bream was tasty, and with salmon too it was fun trying one of each.

It's good just dipped in soy sauce or chogochujang (sweet-spicy chili sauce), and also wrapped in the lettuce they provide. My mom and I kept going "this is good~" and the plate emptied quickly haha.

The best dish of the day: the sashimi rice bowl

What I enjoyed most at Eochongye 1beonji was the sashimi rice bowl, lol. And here's the one I ordered!!

I really love sashimi rice bowls. This one was more generous than I expected and the vegetables were fresh, so I liked it a lot. I put in the fish and vegetables, added a little chogochujang, and mixed it all up, and it just slid down lol.

I guess I like sashimi but can't give up the rice bowl... T_T Of everything we ate that day, the rice bowl was personally my favorite. The vegetables were crunchy and mixed with the fish, so every bite had a different texture and I kept eating. It felt like I went for sashimi and also had a proper meal.

Flounder sushi, ordered for Mom

The flounder sushi was ordered for my mom that day! She really loves it~ so since we were there for sashimi, I ordered her favorite too. She tried it, said it was delicious, and even said let's come again, can you believe it haha.

When the person you're with enjoys the food, it somehow makes me happy too. Eochongye 1beonji has meal dishes as well as sashimi, so I thought it would work well for visiting with parents. If you're looking for a place to eat with older relatives who like sashimi like my mom, this may be helpful.

A long-overdue date with Mom: sashimi, then a sauna

It had been a while, so we spent time eating sashimi and chatting about this and that. We're both busy these days, so time for just the two of us to eat together turned out to be more precious than I thought.

We didn't want to just go home after eating, so we went to a sauna (jjimjilbang-style bathhouse) together lol. Sashimi followed by a sauna made the day totally full. We ate well, talked a lot, and it felt like a proper date after a long time. So more than the good restaurant, spending time with my mom is what I'll remember most from that day.
