Daeheung Station fish restaurant, a 4-person set for three: Mapo Bada

Shrimp, gizzard shad, so much good seafood in season these days?!? I wanted to really enjoy seasonal seafood so I booked a reservation at a seasonal seafood spot near Daeheung Station with friends and here's the review✨

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada: a new seafood restaurant near Daeheung Station

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a seasonal seafood restaurant that just opened near Daeheung Station. You can call ahead to reserve! It just opened but it's already getting popular in the neighborhood.. so I'd recommend booking before you visit 🙋🏽‍♀️

Maybe because it's new, the place is really clean and pleasant! Nice that even though it's a raw fish restaurant, it has its own separate men's and women's restrooms haha. There are plenty of group tables in the back hall too, looked great for gatherings with a lot of people 🐟

What's on the menu at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada

True to its name, Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada's signature is a full seasonal seafood spread! But besides the set, there are lots of other menu options too like flounder/rockfish and assorted sashimi platters haha

The 151,000-won signature set for four, finished by three

There were three of us and we ordered the Mapo Bada Signature Set (₩151,000). It's technically a 4-person menu but the three of us were completely stuffed after finishing it! Even four people would leave full, so order without worry!

It's the style where the whole spread comes out at once — they wheel the table over and slide it right in place. It was so packed full that I had to stand up just to fit it all in one photo 📸

I was seriously shocked at how ridiculously generous it was 😳 the second it came out my friends and I all had wide eyes hahahaha it really has every single seasonal seafood you could possibly eat right now..

What came on the table in September

We visited in September and got gizzard shad sashimi, grilled gizzard shad, flounder, rockfish, raw shrimp, grilled prawns, abalone porridge, assorted seafood, live octopus tartare (nakji tangtangi), fried food, boiled pork (bossam), seaweed soup, and salmon salad. Our chopsticks were seriously busy hahaha something new kept coming out no matter how much we ate, so happy..🤍

There was so much seasonal seafood that we didn't even have time to think about what to eat first before the whole table came out full!! Would be great for group gatherings or family dinners. Grilled gizzard shad, assorted seasonal sashimi, live octopus tartare, steamed egg, salad, abalone porridge... there are baby chairs too so lots of families come. And haha it's all seriously fresh... the octopus was still wriggling, so fresh right?!

There were so many side dishes... I have way too many photos, but every single one felt made with real care, not just thrown on the table to fill space!!

Cold bossam pork, assorted fritters and the seafood platter

Cold boiled pork, assorted fried food. The fried food was fried nice and hard so it was crispy — perfect for snacking on between dishes

The mixed seafood plate had sea squirt, sea cucumber, abalone, and more, so it really felt like eating a whole ocean in one bowl 💙

Steamed egg, seaweed soup, and abalone porridge too! From full meals to drinking snacks, this one seasonal seafood spread really covers everything💙💙

My friends and I were amazed the whole time we were eating hahahaha the portions were huge and everything was delicious too, so I thought, wow, I'd love to come back here for a family meal!

Flounder, rockfish, gizzard shad — and scallop sashimi too

The sashimi was thickly cut and generous, and so fresh it was perfect wrapped in lettuce! Flounder, rockfish, gizzard shad sashimi, even the fins... we ate it with our choice of soybean paste dip, vinegar-chili sauce, or wasabi soy sauce

Getting to eat gizzard shad, which is in season right now, both as sashimi and grilled🤍 they also gave us raw shrimp and crispy fried shrimp (⌒▽⌒)b.. even scallop sashimi came out, seriously haha there's just nothing they don't serve..

Salt-grilled prawns and butter-fried shrimp heads

The grilled prawns come out salt-grilled, and they were literally still flapping, so fresh right? The shrimp were seriously sweet and plump, best shrimp I've eaten all year!!!!

They were huge, the meat was firm and packed inside, and the tomalley was rich and, being in season, really sweet•••✨ better than the shrimp I had at Noryangjin ㅠㅠ

Once you finish the shrimp, they turn the heads into a butter fry, and the rich tomalley flavor there, what can I even say... unbelievably delicious 🫠 an absolute beer snack demon >.<

Round three: spicy fish stew with rice and ramyeon noodles

Once you're done with the shrimp, round three is a spicy fish stew, and we added rice and ramyeon noodles to it!!

No matter how full you are, you can't skip ramyeon noodles in fish stew.. and this fish stew, it was seriously generous... just order this one set and food, beer, soju all go down easy. There were a lot of neighborhood middle-aged men there too, and now I get why. The place only just opened but I have a feeling it's about to get really famous 🥹

Even the meat in the fish stew was firm and meaty haha, ending with a spicy broth, that's just the classic move~~>_< it was so generous and delicious that I walked out patting my full belly hahaha

Is the Mapo Bada signature set worth it?

This is a real find I definitely want to come back to with family... if you're near Daeheung or Gongdeok Station and want solid!!! sashimi, spicy fish stew, and seasonal seafood, I'd recommend it. This quality and quantity for four people at around ₩40,000 each — that's seriously great value in my opinion... enjoy seasonal food at its very best at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada🤍
