Mapo sashimi restaurant, à la carte platters: Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada
In short
Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a seasonal sashimi and seafood restaurant on Baekbeom-ro near Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. The order here was à la carte: a large assorted sashimi platter at 68,000 won and a large seafood platter at 55,000 won, paired with a Josh Sauvignon Blanc at 65,000 won and closed out with a complimentary spicy fish stew. The sashimi came thick-cut and the seafood platter was generous with abalone, scallop, sea cucumber and sea squirt, so Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada suits groups who want sashimi, shellfish and white wine to unfold like a course meal.

What kind of restaurant is Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada?
I wanted to introduce a new spot in Mapo, Seoul where you can get a full sashimi spread. I visited Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada (제철담은 마포바다), a place specializing in seasonal sashimi platters and seafood!

I went to Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada because I wanted properly fresh sashimi and seafood in Mapo. This place mainly serves seasonal sashimi and seafood. Today I was in the mood for both a sashimi platter and a variety of seafood, so it was a great fit. No parking support / use a nearby lot 🚙

Inside Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada: atmosphere and seating
Walking into Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, it was much cleaner than I expected, with wide spacing between tables — more comfortable for dining than a loud, bustling sashimi place. It seems like a great spot for a work dinner near Daeheung Station, a Mapo family gathering, or drinks with friends 🤍

What we ordered à la carte, and what it cost
- Large sashimi platter ₩68,000
- Large seafood platter ₩55,000
- Josh Sauvignon Blanc ₩65,000
There are also set menus for two or more people, so trying several dishes as a set seems like a good option too.

Large assorted sashimi platter, 68,000 won
The large sashimi platter came out first. The sashimi (raw fish) is piled up in layers on a huge plate, generous in amount, and what I loved most was the thickness of the cuts. Not the ultra-thin style that loses all texture — one bite was springy and chewy 😋

Several pieces of sashimi on a perilla leaf with garlic and ssamjang (spicy dipping paste) — sashimi really should be eaten as a big wrap, right, haha. Ah... this is genuinely so good.

Large seafood platter with abalone and sea cucumber, 55,000 won
And this was the dish I was personally most satisfied with that day — the large seafood platter 🦪. One plate came piled generously with abalone, scallop, sea cucumber, sea squirt and more.

The abalone was crunchy and savory the more you chewed it, the fresh scallop was tender rather than chewy with a subtle sweetness. The sea cucumber kept its signature springy texture, and the sea squirt filled my mouth with that distinct ocean aroma the moment I bit in. Eating a variety of seasonal seafood like this rather than just sashimi nonstop was the ultimate combo for texture and aroma, ㅠㅠ

Josh Sauvignon Blanc pairing and the second-bottle discount
Eating sea squirt with Sauvignon Blanc was a combo I really liked 🥂. After the distinct seafood aroma, the crispness of the white wine came in and cleaned up my palate — perfect for eating more sashimi. If you like wine, there's 50% off from the second bottle, which is a great deal for a group visiting to enjoy sashimi with wine ✨

Finishing with the complimentary spicy fish stew
After sashimi, of course it has to end with maeuntang (spicy fish stew). We got it complimentary, and for a free dish it was surprisingly loaded — the broth was quite spicy, and the more it simmered, the more the umami exploded..! Picking out the fish flesh and eating it with the broth was the perfect way to wrap things up.
Sashimi → seafood → white wine → hot fish stew — by the end, it genuinely felt like I'd eaten a full course meal.
