I was passing through Mangwon-dong and stopped by Boulangerie Copain. Right from the entrance, a big sign announcing it had been featured on SBS's Master in the House caught my eye. I heard it was introduced for its baguette and croissant, so I got curious and went in — turned out there were way more bread types than I expected.

Where is Boulangerie Copain in Mangwon-dong?
This Mangwon-dong bakery favorite, Boulangerie Copain, sits in a quiet alley in the neighborhood. Rather than the flashy look of today's big bakeries, it had more of that old-school neighborhood bakery feel.

On the glass front it says "Boulangerie Copain," and next to it there's a bright yellow sign that just says "bread" (빵) in big letters — easy to spot even just walking by.

There was a notice about the Master in the House feature right at the entrance, and it gave me so much trust that I basically floated inside haha.
The Life Masters baguette and croissant master
Boulangerie Copain was featured on SBS's Master in the House on February 26, 2018. Inside the shop, the broadcast segment was displayed prominently — the place was introduced as a master of baguettes and croissants.
According to the signage, the baker has a hotel bakery background and hand-kneads and bakes everything fresh daily, with a particular focus on dough and fermentation.
The signature menu items listed were croissant, baguette, choco baguette, basil crunch, and ham cheese baguette.

Inside Boulangerie Copain: atmosphere and bread lineup
The shop isn't big, but the display case runs along one side, so it's easy to browse everything. I expected just the basic European breads like baguette and croissant, but the variety was bigger than I thought.

There was sliced bread, brioche, sandwiches, baked snacks, and sweet desserts too, so it looked like a good spot for breakfast or brunch bread.

Rather than fancy showpiece breads, this bakery leans toward everyday, no-fuss meal breads and daily baked goods. It's also close to Mangwon Hangang Park, so it seems like a good stop for grabbing bread or sandwiches before a Han River picnic.

Boulangerie Copain signature breads and prices
Looking at the signature menu:
- Baguette ₩4,500 — described as a classic baguette made with a poolish, crispy outside, moist inside, with a nurungji (scorched rice)-like flavor.
- Croissant ₩4,500 — made with potato, crispy outside and chewy inside.
- Injeolmi croissant ₩5,500 — a plain croissant combined with three flavors.
- Brioche ₩7,000 — a savory French-style loaf loaded with milk, butter, and eggs.
Ordering baguettes at the register and which breads get sliced
I didn't realize this, but baguettes aren't picked up directly from the display — you order them at the register with a staff member.
And not every bread can be sliced. Only select items — as posted —
- Baguette
- Choco baguette
- Campagne
- Baguette lunch
— can be cut. If you're planning to eat it right at home, it's convenient to ask them to slice it for you at checkout.
Up to 30% off from 7pm every day
Another thing that stood out at Boulangerie Copain was the time sale. It starts every day at 7pm:
- 20% off with purchases over ₩20,000
- 30% off with purchases over ₩30,000
— up to 30% off. If you're buying multiple breads or stocking up for the family, the discount is pretty significant.
That said, if you go too late, your favorite bread might already be sold out, so it's worth planning your visit — go early if you want variety, or after 7pm if you want to buy a lot at a discount.
What did I end up buying?

The 5 breads bought at Boulangerie Copain
That day, I personally bought a total of 5 breads at Boulangerie Copain.
- Baguette ₩4,500
- Brioche ₩7,000
- Basil crunch ₩6,000
- Fig cream cheese baguette ₩5,500
- Milk salt bread ₩3,500
Since it was featured on Master in the House for baguette and croissant, I really wanted to try the baguette, and I also grabbed the brioche loaf since it looked hefty. On top of that I threw in basil crunch, milk salt bread, and fig cream cheese baguette, and ended up with quite a haul.

Carried a full bag of bread home
Basil crunch, 6,000 won
I sliced the basil crunch and ate it as soon as I got home. Just like the name suggests, the basil aroma came through strongly.

The outside was baked crisp so it had a crunchy bite, while the inside wasn't too dry — more on the soft side. With the fragrant, slightly salty basil flavor added, it felt more like a plain meal bread than a sweet one.

The basil flavor wasn't overpoweringly strong — it lingered subtly the more you ate, so it was easy to enjoy without feeling heavy. If you like basil, definitely try this one.
Fig cream cheese baguette, 5,500 won

The tastiest one was the fig cream cheese baguette. Out of everything I bought that day, this fig cream cheese baguette was the best. Price: ₩5,500.

There's a generous amount of cream cheese sandwiched inside the baguette, topped with a big piece of fig on top — the crispy bread + soft cream cheese + sweet fig combo really worked well together.

Cutting it open, there was quite a bit of cream cheese all the way through, and the little pop of fig seeds was a nice texture too. I bought several kinds that day, but personally this one stuck with me the most — if I go back, I'll definitely get the fig cream cheese baguette again.
Life Masters baguette, 4,500 won
It's really long~~ Carrying this home, I somehow felt like a French woman haha.
The baguette was longer than expected, so finishing it alone wouldn't be easy. When I asked, they said it's best frozen and then reheated in an air fryer.

First, I sliced off a bit just to taste it.

Sure enough, it was that crispy-outside, moist-inside style. The crust shattered crisply when bitten, and the inside wasn't too chewy — moist enough to eat plain without any trouble. It was on the plain side, so it also paired well with butter or cream cheese.

I especially tried scooping the cream cheese from the fig cream cheese baguette — my favorite one — onto the plain baguette, and it was even better this way. The plain, crispy baguette with soft, slightly sweet cream cheese made for a much better combo. I'd definitely recommend trying cream cheese spread on the plain baguette too.

There was so much bread that I gave the sliced bread and salt bread to my mom lol.
One-line verdict on Boulangerie Copain
Living up to its reputation as the Master in the House baguette spot, the baguette was delicious, and for my taste, the ₩5,500 fig cream cheese baguette was the best of the lot.
