TV-featured Mangwon bakery with a 7pm time sale: Boulangerie Copain

I finally made it to Boulangerie Copain, a bakery in Mangwon-dong that's long been famous among locals for great bread. Boulangerie Copain has already been super hot ever since it appeared on the TV show Generation of Masters (생활의 달인), as the croissant and baguette master. But once I actually got to the bakery, there were so many other delicious-looking breads besides the croissant and baguette that I ended up grabbing a bit of everything.

Where is Boulangerie Copain in Mangwon-dong, and is there parking?

Boulangerie Copain is on the 1st floor of 115 Huiujeong-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, a bakery in Mangwon-dong. It's near the Mangwon walking trail and close to Hangang Park too, so people stop in like it's their local haunt while out on a walk, or pick up bread to spread out on a picnic mat before heading to the park. As for parking, I was able to park briefly right in front of the bakery.

The baguette at Boulangerie Copain comes out at 10am. True to a Mangwon-dong bakery with a baguette master featured on TV, the baguette timing was very prominently signposted. It said that breads out before 10am can be purchased except for the baguette.

And they noted that if you want the baguette, campagne (French country bread), or basil crunch cut, they can cut it right in the store, but for other menu items cutting is difficult even if requested.

Boulangerie Copain has the vibe of a comfortable neighborhood bakery, but here's the thing — this is actually a master's bakery, where a hotel-trained baker carefully bakes authentic European breads every day!

As a Mangwon-dong bakery with rock-solid basics, one that treats dough and fermentation as the most important things, the brioche loaf was also a bestseller, and there were plenty of other fun bread varieties too — though by the time I visited in the evening, a lot had already sold out.

Boulangerie Copain also has sandwich options that make for a filling meal, plus breads like corn cheese sausage croissant and mango danish — and the sandwiches had more detail to them than your average sandwich.

I also heard that Boulangerie Copain supplies European-style meal bread wholesale, and that they even offer product consultations tailored to how a business is run. If any store owners out there are considering it, Boulangerie Copain's bread is genuinely a Mangwon-dong bakery-tour must-visit, so I'd really recommend looking into it.

Inside Boulangerie Copain, the actual footage from Generation of Masters was displayed prominently on a big screen haha. Besides croissant and baguette, signature items like choco baguette, basil crunch, and ham cheese baguette drew not just neighborhood regulars but customers coming from far away just for these breads.

Is Boulangerie Copain worth a trip to Mangwon-dong?

I only meant to buy a little, but the prices were so reasonable and so many breads looked delicious that I ended up piling on more and more haha. Mangwon-dong's Boulangerie Copain didn't feel like just a famous TV bakery — it felt more like the kind of bakery that's quietly and consistently loved in the neighborhood, solid on the basics, tasty, reasonably priced, with lots of regulars. Add the evening time sale on top of that, and it was a bread tour that had me thinking, I have to come back.
