Why I tried Baektae 99.3 instant soy milk powder

My household loves soy milk. It's good as a breakfast substitute and easy on the stomach. We usually just drink the pre-packaged single-serve cartons, but recently I got hold of the famous Baektae 99.3 drinkable soy milk from Garu Seonsaeng. Let me give an honest review of the taste and how easy it was to drink.

What's in Baektae 99.3: soybeans and sea salt only

First, let's look at the ingredients of Baektae 99.3. It's really simple: soybeans (Korean) 99.3%, sea salt 0.7%. That's it. No emulsifiers, no flavorings, no coloring, no sweeteners — none of it. Usually powdered products need some kind of dispersing agent to dissolve well in water, but this has none of that either.

Garu Seonsaeng is a company that handles product development, manufacturing, design, branding, and shipping all in-house. It's not OEM — the products are made directly by the company itself. They say Garu Seonsaeng has a patented process for turning soy milk into powder. Thanks to this powdering technology, even with just two raw ingredients, it dissolves well in water.

*You might wonder why a sugar-free soy milk has 2g of sugar — that's the sugar naturally occurring in the soybeans themselves. In other words, it's made with real soybeans and nothing else.

How fine is the Baektae 99.3 powder?

It comes with a 500g pouch and a scoop. The scoop looks like a baby formula scoop.

Opening the Baektae 99.3 pouch, you see fine, light-colored powder. It looks even whiter than in photos or videos. White soybean, baektae — exactly that color.

To the eye it didn't look much different from other powder products, but...

When I scooped some up and smoothed out the surface, the particles were really fine — almost the size of cosmetic powder.

How to mix Baektae 99.3 in cold water

Making Baektae 99.3 is really simple. Just add 2 scoops to 180ml of water (about the amount in a regular soy milk carton).

In go the two scoops right away! Having the included scoop meant I didn't need to measure anything, which was convenient.

Two scoops is 30g, and this is roughly the amount. With powder products, you can just adjust to taste — add more for a stronger flavor, or less for something lighter.

Then I stirred it, and oh — it really dissolved well. I used water fresh out of the fridge, ice cold, and after just a few stirs it dissolved completely with no clumps left.

This is where I got genuinely happy about it. I drink misugaru (roasted grain powder) often, and when it doesn't dissolve, you get gritty bits and it's hard to swallow, which is really unpleasant. Baektae 99.3 dissolves so completely, there's nothing left over at all.

What does Baektae 99.3 taste like?

Since I hate getting undissolved powder stuck in my throat, I scooped some with a teaspoon to check. Truly nothing left undissolved.

Then I drank it — no grittiness, no clumps, nothing settled at the bottom. Downed it in one go. The taste is nutty and clean, like a good mix of soy milk and misugaru. Even without any sweetness, it's not fishy at all and easy to drink. I like sweet things, but even I thought this was tasty and easy to enjoy. Is this the flavor of Korean white soybeans, baektae? Honestly, it's delicious.

It's really convenient to pack in a tumbler and take with you in the morning, and it keeps you feeling full longer than you'd expect.

When you're suddenly hungry at night but don't want to eat something heavy, one glass quiets down a rumbling stomach. Very good as a diet-friendly soy milk.

Baektae 99.3 drinkable soy milk is a completely vegan product. Anyone dieting or careful about ingredients will definitely like this. I'd also recommend it to people who want a simple busy-morning option, or anyone looking for a healthy, sugar-free soy milk instead of a sweet one. Above all, since it dissolves so completely with nothing left over, you can drink it without any worry.
