Beefjeong Gogi Jip is a Korean BBQ restaurant in front of Sindang Station Exit 8 in Jung-gu, Seoul, serving both Korean pork (handon) and Korean beef (hanwoo). Three servings of thinly sliced pork belly flash-frozen at -40°C, plus a side of kimchi noodles, came out crisp at the edges and juicy in the middle. Salt alone is enough for this pork belly, and the tangy kimchi noodles round it out — a place with both flavor and wit.
Usijang Hoegwan is a beef soup, yukhoe (raw beef), and yuksashimi (raw beef sashimi) restaurant in a Dohwa-dong alley, 3 minutes on foot from Mapo Station Exit 3. On a visit right after break time, the writer ordered clam beef soup and a perilla-leaf raw beef sashimi platter, even trying kkuri-sal sashimi on vinegared rice like sushi. With soup and raw beef covered in one visit, it suits a Mapo office lunch or a work dinner alike.
Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch is a skewer izakaya in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, 4 minutes on foot from Saetgang Station Exit 1. The writer booked a counter seat and paired assorted skewers, yurinji, and hangover ramen with Kirin Ichiban draft beer, and the smoky charcoal skewers with smooth draft beer were especially good. A great spot for a light drink after work.
