Omakase in Pangyo: Spring and Jang dinner with kombucha at Kkweda

In short

Kkweda Pangyo Avenue France Branch is a set-seating omakase course restaurant on the first floor of Avenue France, right in front of Pangyo Station Exit 1 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The blogger had Kkweda's "Spring and Jang" seasonal course at the first dinner seating with a non-alcoholic kombucha and mojito, moving from cold potato soup through hanwoo striploin roast beef and anago katsudon (fried eel rice bowl) to rare cheesecake. With tender abalone, excellent beef and a delicious dessert, Kkweda is worth recommending for dates, formal family meetings before a wedding and group dinners.

Main photo of Kkweda, an omakase restaurant at Avenue France in Pangyo

I heard there's a great omakase spot in Pangyo's Avenue France, so I went. It's called Kkweda (꿰다). It's good for special days, and since the food changes with the seasons, it's also a nice place to go for seasonal dishes.

Where is Kkweda Pangyo Avenue France Branch, and where can you park?

Come out of Pangyo Station Exit 1 and walk 150 m to the Pangyo Station intersection. Kkweda is on the first floor of Avenue France, facing the main road, between Olive Young and Dwaejimaen Syeon, right next to Andong Guksi. It's open daily 11:30–21:30, with a break from 14:00 to 17:00.

It's a 5-minute walk from Pangyo Station Exit 1 and 10 minutes from Hyundai Department Store Pangyo, so you could shop there first and then come. For parking, use the Avenue France basement 1 level; free parking is available at Hanshin Church.

Kkweda's entrance and seating times

Kkweda exterior

The exterior is European-style plaster with natural light pouring in, which is just not fair... it's so pretty. The door is unusual too, and even when you open it you can't see straight inside, which gave it a private feel.

A photo of the roast beef, the highlight of the course, hangs on the standing sign. I'm so excited.

Kkweda runs three seatings a day. Keep that in mind when you book!

  • Lunch 12:00–14:30
  • Dinner 1st seating 17:00–18:45
  • Dinner 2nd seating 19:00–21:00

Kkweda's bar, tables and private group room terms

Kkweda interior

You basically sit at the bar table, and larger parties get separate tables and rooms. I thought it was just a great omakase spot in Pangyo, but the interior is great too. Since it runs in seatings, you need to arrive on time. Think of it as run like an omakase, but having tables and rooms is what sets it apart from a typical omakase.

Kkweda has everything from 6-seat tables to group rooms. The bar table needs 2 or more people, the 6-seat hall table needs 3 or more, and the group room can be booked with a dinner minimum of ₩500,000 or more.

The rooms are separated from the outer space too, so it'd be great for gatherings and company dinners. I think it'd also be great for meeting the in-laws, and friends often hold club gatherings, right? Kkweda is good value too, so if it were me, I'd choose Kkweda.

The drink selection is huge too. It feels like they have everything. I'll show you the drink menu below.

Fridge and flower arrangement in front of the bar seats at Kkweda

I sat in front of the fridge and naturally ended up browsing the fridge decor while eating, haha. Did they arrange the flowers themselves? There were only men there, and they have such a stylish eye.

Kkweda's "Spring and Jang" course menu and drinks

Kkweda course menu themed Spring and Jang

This course is themed "Spring and Jang" (봄과 장, "spring and fermented sauces") and has 8 dishes. It's the course menu I saw on the standing sign earlier! The order is below.

  • Cold potato soup
  • Barley salad
  • Steamed abalone and eggplant
  • Shrimp cannelloni
  • Clear chicken soup
  • Roast beef
  • Eel katsudon (anago katsudon)
  • Rare cheesecake

Is a drink required at Kkweda's dinner, and are there non-alcoholic options?

At Kkweda's dinner you must order an alcoholic drink, but there are non-alcoholic drinks too, so people who don't drink needn't worry. We ordered a non-alcoholic kombucha and a mojito. The alcohol list is varied: whisky, champagne, distilled spirits, sake, and wines from different countries. I really couldn't think of a type they didn't have.

Kkweda kombucha and Kkweda mojito

The non-alcoholic Kkweda mojito and Kkweda kombucha arrived. The kombucha was tangy, exactly my style, with thinly sliced apple as garnish.

The mojito was fragrant and fizzy, great to sip during the meal. It's garnished with apple mint, which made it even more fragrant.

Cold potato soup

The cold potato soup is the first dish: a potato base with sweet shrimp dropped in, enriched with quinoa and green olives. Here's the group shot of the cold potato soup, haha.

There's kohlrabi pickle at the bottom, so you have to scoop all the way down. I love potato soup, so I enjoyed it. It was nice that it was a cold soup for summer, and it was fun to try potato soup presented differently from the usual.

Barley salad

Next is the barley salad. You wrap barley, quinoa and green olives in an endive leaf and eat it.

It's a bit like a poke wrap, haha. It tastes like it must be good for you. It went down light and easy, and I enjoyed it.

One bite of Kkweda's barley salad

Steamed abalone and eggplant

The steamed abalone and eggplant is abalone and eggplant steamed well, topped with a fresh sauce and sea urchin (uni), finished with lime zest. They could go on a show as a master abalone steamer. It's so tender I feel like you could swallow it without chewing.

If you like uni, you can add more, so I think it's worth adding.

Shrimp cannelloni

The shrimp cannelloni is shrimp wrapped in cannelloni, and the sauce underneath is reportedly gochujang-based (Korean chili paste). The garnish on top is pea shoots, and their fresh aroma was lovely. It reminded me of fresh tomatoes.

Clear chicken soup

The clear chicken soup is simmered with chicken stock, abalone stock, clams, green onion and shepherd's purse, and the deep flavor is its best feature.

Maybe because of the chicken thigh, it had a ramen feel.

The chicken was tasty with no gamey smell. It warmed my stomach before the meat, which was nice. I slurped it all up.

The highlight: hanwoo striploin roast beef

The roast beef, the highlight of Kkweda's course, is thinly sliced Korean beef (hanwoo) striploin served with mugwort doenjang (soybean paste) sauce, asparagus, siler (bangpung) greens and whole-grain mustard.

It's neat and tidy too. It feels like I should eat it one pretty slice at a time, lol.

Kkweda roast beef with accompanying vegetables

It's delicious when you put a bit of everything inside a slice of striploin and roll it up like this.

The meat was tender and tasty. This place is good at tender food, and I really like that. You can also add truffle, so keep that in mind.

Anago katsudon made with fried eel

The anago (eel) katsudon is a katsudon (rice bowl with a fried cutlet) made with fried eel.

Kkweda eel katsudon topped with fried eel

The fried eel is a treat too. It seems the tempura is seasoned, and it stayed crisp rather than soggy and wasn't too salty, just right, so I enjoyed it to the end.

A clear broth comes with it too, a nice touch. A bite of the rice bowl, then a sip of broth, is perfect. I rarely get to eat fried eel, so it was a fun experience.

Dessert: rare cheesecake

The rare cheesecake is made with cream cheese and yogurt.

It was tangy and a perfect finish. I'd have bought a big slice if they had one..lol. Kkweda, a great Pangyo omakase spot, nails dessert too.

The final dessert of the Kkweda course

Who should you bring to Kkweda's spring course?

Kkweda's spring "Spring and Jang" course is good for a date on a special day, and for company dinners, meeting the in-laws and all kinds of gatherings. Don't look elsewhere in Pangyo; I recommend trying a meal at Kkweda ^,^
