Seodaemun Seoul rice bowl lunch with butadon: Sunhui Dining

Looking for a restaurant with a simple rice bowl menu near Ewha Womans University?

I stopped by Sunhui Dining (순희다이닝) for a meal while out taking care of some overdue errands. It was a second-floor restaurant a little past the Ewha Womans University main gate after getting off at Ewha Womans University Station.

There were just three menu items: butadon (pork rice bowl), spicy butadon, and soboro gobong galbi-bap (rice with soboro topping and piled-high galbi). Even though it was late lunchtime, there were customers sitting in the waiting chairs.

What were the seating and ordering like?

The space felt bright and tidy, like a newly opened place. Fitting for its location near a university, it had single seats as well as tables for four. Other seats were occupied, so I sat at the window bar, which was actually comfortable.

I ordered by tablet. Soup, salad, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), and water were available from the self-service bar.

How were the butadon and galbi rice bowls?

The butadon came with warm stir-fried pork over rice. I ate the egg yolk, meat, rice, and wasabi together, while the spicy butadon felt like butadon with an added spicy, clean flavor. The egg yolk, green onion, and crisp onion also worked well together.

With only three menu items, I also ordered the soboro gobong galbi-bap. It was a bowl with sweet-savory galbi and stir-fried kimchi, and I had lunch with all three dishes lined up together.
