I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner after work and ended up at Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon. It's right between Jongak Station and Gwanghwamun Station, so it's a great spot to stop by after getting off work in Jongno! I went alone this time, and since just having beef noodles felt a bit lacking, I went all in and ordered beef dosakmyeon plus lemon cream shrimp too.
Tastes like I'm in Taiwan. The beef noodles and cream shrimp were seriously, excessively delicious and I'm definitely coming back again and again and again! Highly recommend if you're wandering around Jongno looking for a good restaurant!

Being right in the middle of Jongno, it seems like it would get packed with office workers on weekday lunches, but I visited to eat alone during dinner hours after work.
The vibe doesn't feel awkward at all for eating alone, so it seems like a solid pick if you're looking for a place to eat solo after work in Jongno.
There were as many as five other people eating alone! It's kind of comforting, haha.
The menu at Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon and what was ordered
True to the name, the signature dish is beef dosakmyeon! Beyond the dosakmyeon options, there were quite a lot of other dishes to pair with it too — stir-fried noodles, rice bowls, dim sum, guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), fried eggplant, and more.
And the side I picked was lemon cream shrimp! I came alone, but having just noodles felt like a waste… haha. So my order for the day was beef dosakmyeon + lemon cream shrimp. Pretty proper spread for a solo meal.
What do the beef dosakmyeon noodles taste and feel like?

The first thing that catches your eye with dosakmyeon is the noodles themselves. Unlike regular noodles with an even thickness, some parts are wide and some are thin, so the texture is noticeably different bite to bite.
They're thick and chewy, so if you're someone who likes the bite of noodles like kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup), dosakmyeon should suit your taste too. There's beef mixed in as well, so it's a pretty filling dish even on its own.
The beef noodles have a slightly more exotic aroma and flavor than typical Korean noodle dishes, so if you usually enjoy mala tang or Chinese-style noodles, this one's worth trying. And honestly, there's just something fun about slurping down those thick dosakmyeon noodles, haha.
Is lemon cream shrimp worth adding as a side?
Honestly, this might be the real main dish here — lemon cream shrimp. I was debating just ordering the beef noodles, but I saw this on the side menu and couldn't resist. Once my order arrived, every other solo diner was glancing over, haha. One person even asked me what it was.
Eating the salty, rich beef noodles and then mixing in the cream-sauced shrimp in between was a totally different flavor, and the combo worked really well. The lemon especially adds a fresh, tangy touch that regular cream shrimp doesn't have!
If just having dosakmyeon feels like it's not enough, I'd recommend adding a side dish too. Though for me, ordering both beef noodles and shrimp solo turned out to be way more filling than I expected, haha.
Why eating alone at this Jongno noodle restaurant felt easy
When you're eating alone, it's not just about the taste — whether it feels awkward to walk in solo matters too. Since Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon has customers who just come in for a single bowl of noodles, it didn't feel like much of a burden to visit alone.
It's a good place to stop by on days when you don't want to head straight home after work but still want something delicious. If you're eating solo, a single bowl of beef dosakmyeon is enough, and on days when you want to eat properly like I did, adding a side dish is a nice option too.
