Sutgarak Bansang Masil: Nowon hanjeongsik for in-law meetings and family gatherings
I was looking for a Korean set-course restaurant good for family gatherings or special occasions, and ended up at Sutgarak Bansang Masil! I ordered their signature Masil course, and I'm going to share a vivid review of it, from the visuals to the taste to the atmosphere~
Where is Sutgarak Bansang Masil?
Sutgarak Bansang Masil was a quick walk from Nowon Station. I loved that the exterior was styled like a hanok (traditional Korean house). Let's step inside together haha~
Opening hours
The phone number and business hours were posted at the restaurant.
What is in the 27,000-won Masil course?
Sutgarak Bansang Masil's menu was generally organized into lunch and full-course set menus.

There were detailed photos and explanations of the table settings. With main dishes, seasonal items, and add-ons, just looking at it felt satisfying. We went with the Masil course set! (◍•ᴗ•◍)♡ ✧*。

Appetizers: job's tears porridge to wild chive field butterfly japchae
The Masil course started with job's tears porridge (yulmujuk). It began softly to whet the appetite before the meal. The soft, nutty aroma of job's tears warmed my stomach and gave off a gentle flavor — a perfect way to start the meal.
The conch salad (sora chohoe naengchae) was chewy, and the tangy-sweet sauce really got my appetite going. The orange butterfly salad refreshed my palate with its zesty dressing and crisp vegetables. The spring forsythia fritters came out golden and crispy just like their name, with a crunchy texture that disappeared in no time. The medicinal herb bossam had no gamey smell at all — moist, tender boiled pork paired with dried radish strips made for a fantastic combination.
The crown daisy lotus pancake (ssukgat yeonkkotjeon) was crispy outside and chewy inside! The more you chewed, the more the fragrant crown daisy aroma spread, keeping it light rather than greasy. The perilla seaweed soup was packed with ingredients, giving it a really rich, savory broth. The wild chive field butterfly japchae had glass noodles that stayed springy without going soft, coated in a subtle wild chive aroma and savory soy seasoning.
Overall, nothing was overly seasoned, and I could feel the care put into each dish, which made the whole meal a pleasant experience.

Is the Masil course good value at 27,000 won?
For ₩27,000 per person, the main dish lineup and seasonal side dishes together made for a spread that nailed both value and quality~

If you're looking for a refined hanjeongsik place for a family meal or to take your parents to, Sutgarak Bansang Masil seems like a great pick~ Truly a Nowon spot for matchmaking meals, family gatherings, and just a great local restaurant ❤️
Main dishes: mushroom braised short ribs and Masil tteokgalbi
Next was the nutty mushroom braised ribs (yeongyang beoseot galbijjim) — the meat was so tender it fell right off the bone, melting in my mouth. The subtle mushroom aroma and the deep, sweet sauce were superb!
The Masil tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) burst with juices the moment you bit into it! The sweet and salty seasoning soaked all the way through the meat, a flavor that would please anyone regardless of age or gender.

What was especially great was being able to keep it heating as we ate. It was absolutely delicious once the onions had cooked down a bit.

The finish: cherry blossom rice and spring wild chive hot pot
Then, to round out the meal, cherry blossom rice and spring wild chive hot pot arrived~ The cherry blossom rice was a feast for the eyes with its color, and it was loaded with fragrant wild chives. Paired with the refreshing, spicy hot pot broth, it made for a perfect finish to the meal.
The seasonal greens and napgae kimchi were neat and clean too, and I ate them alongside the rice and stew. The seasoning was well-balanced and it felt like a genuinely healthy meal, almost like a nourishing tonic dish.

And the side dishes and food here were so varied and plentiful, they'd put any rice-thief dish to shame~ Being able to taste a little bit of many different things was the biggest perk.

Up to this point, the appetizers, full of spring flavors and gentle on the stomach, really got the appetite going. It was a satisfying spread that treated both the eyes and the mouth!
Actually, TMI but haha... I'd been here before and paid out of my own pocket, and this time I got to come back through a great opportunity.

And that wrapped up the whole course of dishes!

There was even a thoughtful dessert at the end to cleanse the palate with something sweet and clean after the meal.
Atmosphere, private rooms and parking at Sutgarak Bansang Masil
From the moment I walked in until I left, Sutgarak Bansang Masil combined traditional Korean elements with modern touches in a way that made me want to keep lingering. It seemed quite popular, too — there were rows of autographs from celebrities on display.
The wood-toned interior was calm and clean without any clutter, so the moment I stepped in, I felt well taken care of.
The surroundings and facilities matter a lot here too! The tables were spaced generously, so I could focus on conversation without worrying about nearby diners. There were also well-equipped private rooms, making it perfect for family gatherings or important meals.
The lighting was soft and warm, letting me enjoy a cozy, comfortable mood throughout the meal.
The restaurant also had convenient on-site parking and amenities, so visiting by car felt completely stress-free.
