Geomdan course bar July menu with octopus salad and Chardonnay: Matgim

In short

Matgim (맡김) is a course-meal bar on the first floor of Holyland, near Dokjeong Station in Geomdan, Incheon. At the bar, the writer had Matgim's July chef's choice course at 35,000 won with two glasses of white wine: six dishes, from an octopus and sweet corn cob salad to a watermelon and schisandra (omija) granita. For a date or anniversary course dinner at a reasonable price in Geomdan, rather than an ordinary pub, Matgim is a good fit.

Matgim, a course-meal bar in Geomdan

Today I'm sharing my visit to Matgim (맡김, MATGIM), a place in Geomdan, Seo-gu, Incheon where you can enjoy a slightly different kind of course meal! Unlike your usual bar or restaurant, you taste a variety of dishes in a set course, so I thought it would also be a lovely date spot for a special day ♡

How much is the course at Matgim?

Matgim's ₩35,000 and ₩50,000 course guide

Matgim offers two per-person courses: ₩35,000 and ₩50,000. I booked the ₩35,000 chef's course (맡김차림) this day :)

Matgim location, parking and atmosphere

Matgim is on the first floor of Holyland, the Megabox building. It's fairly close to Dokjeong Station, so it's easy to reach, and I hear you can use the building's underground car park, so driving there should be convenient too! Maybe thanks to the soft lighting, the mood was great from the entrance 𖤐

The inside is cozy and calm overall. Go to the back and you'll find a wine room, with a whole wall of wine bottles on display!

Matgim wine room prices

The wine room has bottles in the ₩70,000–150,000 range. Good to know: if you order a bottle, you can pick the wine yourself in the wine room 𖤐

Where should you sit at Matgim?

I recommend the center or right seats at the bar, where you can watch the food being made. The soft lighting was perfect for an evening date, and the tables were nicely spaced so we could eat comfortably! We arrived a little before our 8 o'clock reservation and sat at the bar.

Again, I recommend the center or right seats, where you can see the cooking up close!

Matgim's owners preparing the dishes

The two owners prepare the dishes themselves, and watching them work carefully from prepping ingredients to plating meant the waiting time never got boring!!

Matgim's July ₩35,000 chef's course menu

I ordered the July chef's course for ₩35,000 plus 2 glasses of white wine!

Menu of Matgim's July chef's course

The July course had 6 dishes in total.

  • Octopus & corn cob salad
  • Signature grilled baby napa cabbage
  • Shrimp & chorizo tartine
  • Matgim-style chogye guksu (cold chicken noodles)
  • Sous vide pork tenderloin steak
  • Watermelon & schisandra granita

White wine: Urmeneta Chardonnay

Before the food came out, they prepared the white wine we ordered. It's called Urmeneta Chardonnay, and it's on the low-sweetness side, so it was clean and nice!

Octopus & corn cob salad

The first dish, the octopus and corn cob salad, is made with bell pepper, potato, super-sweet corn, octopus, gold kiwi and more, and they told us to squeeze the lime served alongside over it before eating!

Octopus and corn cob salad with lime

I loved the chewy texture from the octopus, and the sweetness of the corn went so well with the freshness of the lime!!

It gently wakes up your appetite, so it was a great first course.

Matgim's signature grilled baby napa cabbage

The second dish is grilled baby napa cabbage, which they say is Matgim's signature! Personally, it was one of the dishes I enjoyed most ♡ Napa cabbage, cheese, bacon and Caesar dressing sit on top of a creamy sauce.

Lots of cheese is piled on the nicely browned cabbage, and the combination of the cabbage's natural sweetness with the nutty cheese was so good!! Finely chopped chili cut through what could have been too rich, so I could enjoy it to the very end ◜⤙◝

Shrimp and chorizo tartine

Shrimp & chorizo tartine

The third dish is the shrimp and chorizo tartine. Garlic aioli, chorizo and shrimp sit on crispy bread, and the saltiness was appealing!! Eating it with horseradish mustard too meant I never got tired of it 𖤐

It's a familiar flavor you feel you've had somewhere before, but the crunch and richness were so good that I wanted it again . . ♡

In between, I also watched the chefs' fire show haha The beer looked super cold too!

After we'd enjoyed that, before the next dish was ready, they gave us a small soup bowl for sharing.

Matgim-style chogye guksu

The fourth dish is the Matgim-style chogye guksu (cold chicken noodles)!!

Matgim-style chogye guksu topped with tomato granita

It felt a little different from ordinary chogye guksu. With tomato granita and basil in it, it tasted fresh yet exotic, and it was a clean, cool dish that suited the hot weather so well!!

Sous vide pork tenderloin steak

The fifth dish is the highlight: sous vide pork tenderloin steak! Tender pork tenderloin comes with a pea purée and an orange-based sauce.

Being sous vide, it was mild in flavor and the texture was super soft. And the unusual sauce made it even more enjoyable!!

Watermelon & schisandra granita

The last one is a dessert, watermelon and schisandra (omija) granita.

The crunchy granita texture was fun, and the sweetness of the watermelon with the freshness of the schisandra jelly made a clean finish ◡̈ The flow of the course felt connected right to the end!

The table after finishing the Matgim course

How long does the Matgim course take?

The whole course at Matgim took a comfortable 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours!!

If you want a date or anniversary course meal in Geomdan

If you're looking for a place in Geomdan with a special atmosphere rather than an ordinary bar, I recommend Matgim, where you can enjoy a carefully made course meal at a fair price 𖤐𖤐𖤐 I think you'll be even happier visiting on a day when you want a slightly different meal, like a date or anniversary :)
