Yongsan Korean BBQ with minari duck: Cheongdo Minari Sikdang
In short
Cheongdo Minari Sikdang Samgakji Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul, where minari and duck are grilled together. I shared a half portion of minari duck roast with my child, adding rice cakes, tofu, and Jjapagetti for a filling finish. Verdict: a delicious pick for dates, family meals, or group dinners.

I’d often spotted Cheongdo Minari Sikdang (청도미나리식당) while passing through Samgakji. Cheongdo is famous for minari (water celery), and minari with meat is so good anyway, so while I was nearby Samgakji, I stopped in with my child.
Is Cheongdo Minari Sikdang Samgakji Branch good for group gatherings?

Cheongdo Minari Sikdang operates up to the second floor, so it looked like a good place to come as a group, too. There are quite a few offices nearby, so I think it would be nice to reserve ahead on Naver and have a company dinner here.

Of course, it’s also great for couples and families rather than just groups. If you search on Naver and write a photo review, you get a coupon for minari jeon (water celery pancake), so keep that in mind and try the pancake, too!
Menu items that pair minari with meat

There’s minari shabu-shabu for ₩14,000, minari pork belly for ₩18,000, fresh minari duck roast for ₩36,000, fresh minari duck hot pot for ₩36,000, and more. I thought it was a pork belly restaurant, but the menu is varied, from shabu-shabu to ssambap (rice with wraps), a lunch item. There are also lots of add-ons, including plenty to have as dessert after the meat.
When you want to take your child out for meat but feel a little unsure about giving them only meat, a minari restaurant seems nice because you can give them vegetables, too. Parents want their kids to eat a more varied diet, after all.
The minari duck roast spread and sides

The basic side dishes included aged kimchi that was good for grilling, pickled radish wraps, corn, lotus root, myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), and gosari (bracken fern). The myeongi namul was such a great match for the meat.

When we ordered duck roast, it came with minari, garlic chives, potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and more. I liked that they gave us more vegetables than I expected.

These are the sauces for dipping the duck. There’s a house sauce and chojang (sweet-tangy red chili sauce), with perilla seed powder in the middle. It’s good to mix the perilla seed powder into the chojang and eat it with the meat.

Pickled onions came with it as well. Eating pickled onions with meat keeps it from feeling greasy and brings out the flavor of the meat even more.

They also gave us rice cakes and tofu to grill with the duck. These weren’t listed as part of the menu, but I think they simply give them to you.

How to grill the half portion of minari duck roast
The half portion of minari duck roast was ₩36,000. The duck came seasoned with garlic. I ordered only a half portion because I wondered whether a whole duck would be too much, but when I saw what came out, I even thought maybe I should have ordered a whole one.

They told us to grill the duck for 4 minutes and 30 seconds, then add the vegetables.

The duck was browning beautifully. There was lots of garlic, too, so it looked like it would be even more delicious—I was already salivating.

Once the time was up, we added the vegetables, too. With the vegetables in, it looked even more appetizing.

We added the rice cakes and tofu at this point, too. They didn’t take long to cook, so it was nice that we could eat them quickly.

The duck was even tastier with minari. Dipped in the sauce, it wasn’t greasy at all and was so delicious that I ate while debating whether to order more meat.

Why it was good with a child, and the finishing dish
Another reason it’s good to come with a child is that there are lots of things to give them. I ordered duck, minari, mushrooms, rice cakes, tofu, onions, and rice for my child, and they must have liked it because they focused on the duck. Grilled kimchi on one side made a great combination, too.

It wasn’t on the printed menu, but there was Jjapagetti on the tablet, so I ordered it. I wondered if the meal might feel a little incomplete at the end, but finishing with Jjapagetti left us nicely full.
A good place to eat with a child in Samgakji
Open from 11:30 to 22:00. I recommend it as a good place to feed your child in Samgakji. It’s good not only for children, but also for dates and group company dinners, so honestly, I recommend it to everyone! The food is good, and the staff are kind.
