Yongsan Japanese restaurant for eel rice bowl ochazuke: Una

In short

Una Yongsan Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul, serving hitsumabushi and daily limited mero mabushi. I enjoyed generous eel and thick mero with rice, then poured in green tea for ochazuke, with private rooms available for a quieter meal. Una Yongsan Main Branch is a satisfying choice for a hearty eel rice bowl meal.

Recharging with an eel rice bowl in Yongsan

Why have I been feeling so completely drained lately? 😂 I figured I needed something delicious to properly recharge, so I went out for an eel rice bowl, haha. This time I visited Una Yongsan Main Branch (우나 용산 본점) in Yongsan. It was clean with a lovely atmosphere, making it a great place for a meal—and most of all, the eel rice bowl was so generously portioned that I left feeling nicely full ☺️

The moment I stepped inside, the elegant atmosphere really came through ✨ There are also separate rooms, so it seemed perfect for enjoying a more private meal ☺️

Dining table with table ordering

Each table had table ordering, so ordering was easy, haha. We ordered hitsumabushi, mero mabushi, and a cola 💛

Naver receipt review event

If you write a Naver receipt review, they offer a glass of fresh ginseng liquor that pairs nicely with the eel rice bowl, so it would be nice to make sure you claim it 😊

Hitsumabushi, delicious as is or as ochazuke

Hitsumabushi set served with side dishes

At last, our hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice bowl) arrived 🤎 The side dishes were neatly served alongside it too, and it looked like such a substantial spread that I could already tell it would do a proper job of recharging me!

Hitsumabushi topped with golden-grilled eel

It was piled high with big, beautifully golden-grilled pieces of eel 😍 Una Yongsan Main Branch says it selects only premium eel, grills it traditionally, coats it in tare sauce aged for more than 10 hours with around 30 medicinal ingredients, then grills it over charcoal 👀✨ No wonder it is known for eel rice bowls in Yongsan 😆

Eel rice bowl enjoyed with rice

First, I tried it simply with the rice so I could taste the eel itself! The savory, clean-tasting eel went so well with the subtly sweet flavor of the house tare sauce 🤎

Eel ochazuke enjoyed with green tea

Once it started to feel just a little rich, I poured in the green tea that came with it and ate it like ochazuke (rice with green tea poured over it) 🍵 It turned into a lighter, cleaner-tasting dish and was delicious in a completely different way ☺️ I could enjoy the eel rice bowl all the way through without getting tired of it ✨

The soft flavor of daily limited mero mabushi

Daily limited mero mabushi

Una Yongsan Main Branch is also selling mero mabushi, said to be introduced in Korea for the first time, in limited quantities each day 👀 It is not something you come across easily, even normally, so I was curious and ordered it right away! ✨

Mero mabushi topped with thick pieces of mero

The mero mabushi looked incredibly appetizing from the start, right? 🤎 It was topped generously with large, thick pieces of mero (Patagonian toothfish), enough to make my mouth water just looking at it 🤤

Grilled mero tasted on its own

I tried the grilled mero on its own, and it was savory and incredibly tender 💛

Grilled mero served with rice

I tried the golden-grilled mero with the rice. The flesh was soft and moist, with such a full, savory flavor—it was really delicious ☺️

Mero ochazuke enjoyed with green tea

I also ate the mero like ochazuke! The green tea neatly cut through mero's naturally rich flavor, and the combination worked far better than I expected 👍🏻 It felt less rich this way, and I could enjoy it deliciously until the end ☺️

Green tea ice cream for dessert

Green tea ice cream served for dessert

They prepared green tea ice cream for dessert, and the distinctive pleasant bitterness of green tea came through strongly. It was lovely for freshening up after the meal 💚

From the food to the atmosphere, I was happy with everything at Una Yongsan Main Branch 🤎 The eel rice bowl especially had substantial pieces of eel and tasted so good! If you are looking for a proper eel rice bowl in Yongsan, or somewhere you can dine in a private room, I absolutely recommend Una Yongsan Main Branch 👍🏻💛
