Signature brisket dish at Chadol Grill Magok

I went to Chadol Grill Magok (차돌그릴 마곡) in Magok and ate a whole lot of rich, savory brisket. The Magok branch serves fresh meat in all kinds of cooking styles, which really brings out what's great about brisket (chadolbaegi, thinly sliced beef brisket). I loved how neatly each dish was put together, and being properly full made me happy the whole meal, haha.

Where is Chadol Grill Magok and what's the atmosphere like?

The exterior has a sleek black sign and big glass windows, so it makes a clean impression even from far away! Inside, the ventilation is excellent, so even though it's a BBQ restaurant, there was no smoke or smell and it stayed comfortable.

The menu centers on aged brisket, with grilled dishes, samhap (a three-part combo), and fresh yukhoe ssam (seasoned raw beef wraps), so the variety of meat dishes stood out. There are also stews and noodles that go well with the meat, so choosing is fun. You can enjoy brisket in so many combinations that just reading the menu got me excited, haha. That day I chose the hanwoo brisket yukhoe ssam and the aged brisket samhap, and for the meal I went for brisket doenjang rice with an extra bowl of rice to eat plenty!

What does the hanwoo brisket yukhoe ssam taste like?

The hanwoo brisket yukhoe ssam at Chadol Grill Magok comes with fresh hanwoo (Korean beef) yukhoe and good-looking brisket, and you roll the yukhoe up in the grilled brisket. It caught my eye the moment it hit the table, and watching the hanwoo brisket sizzle on the grill made my mouth water, haha.

I rolled the sweet, fresh yukhoe up in a nicely grilled slice of brisket and popped it in my mouth in one bite, and the chewiness and savoriness filled my mouth!

The sweet-salty seasoning of the yukhoe blends well with the richness of the fatty brisket, and I kept marveling as I ate, haha. It isn't harsh, and the clean, mild flavor is appealing and really got my appetite going.

What goes into the aged brisket samhap?

The aged brisket samhap at Chadol Grill Magok pairs chewy scallops with well-aged brisket, and it was a satisfying dish. Once the ingredients are on the grill and golden, the rich juices of the brisket soak softly into the scallops, so the deeper savory flavor builds the more you chew!

Maybe because the meat is aged, it wasn't tough at all and melted in my mouth, so I could fully enjoy that distinctive texture! Eating it as a samhap with myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves) or white kimchi cut through the richness, so I never got tired of it.

How was the brisket doenjang rice to finish the meal?

The brisket doenjang rice (rice in a soybean paste broth) I ordered to finish the meal arrived bubbling in an earthenware pot (ttukbaegi), giving off a rich, savory aroma. The pot is packed with brisket, so the broth isn't light at all; it's hearty and deep.

I scooped up the rice soaked in broth, along with mild tofu and meat, and it warmed me up and left me full. The savory flavor is so appealing that I couldn't stop spooning, haha. You can enjoy brisket dishes like a course here, so I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a Magok dinner spot!
