Family dinner in Gangnam: juanjang set and pork gomtang at Yangjaeok
In short
Yangjaeok is a hanok-style Korean restaurant within 300 meters of Exit 4 at Yangjae Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekend evening out with a child and grandparents, the writer ordered the juanjang set (37,000 won) and doeji gomtang (11,000 won), a clear pork soup, and the set arrived as one big platter of jeyuk bokkeum, bossam, dubu kimchi and zucchini pancake, so nobody had to agonize over the menu. The child polished off a whole bowl of pork gomtang, making Yangjaeok an easy pick for a family meal near Yangjae Station.

Hi, it's your helpful Chacha! ๑❛ᴗ❛๑ I found a place that's both easy and generous for a family meal. Let me introduce Yangjaeok, a spot that stood out for its tender bossam and rich pork tang broth!~

Where Yangjaeok is and what the hanok-style dining room feels like

Yangjaeok is within 300 meters of Exit 4 of Yangje Station, so it's super easy to reach by public transit. The neatly kept hanok-style (traditional Korean house) exterior already gives off strong good-restaurant vibes. Stepping inside, comfortable table seating welcomes you.

Yangjaeok is a Korean restaurant with a warm, homey feel, and many customers come for the combination of soft bossam and chewy makguksu (buckwheat noodles). It also has single-bowl menus like sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) and gogi guksu (meat noodle soup), so it's easy to drop by for a solid lunch or dinner. The 'juanjang' set, orderable from late afternoon, comes with enough side dishes that you don't need to think about what to pair with your drink — and it works fine as a meal too if you just add a bowl of rice.
What's on the menu at Yangjaeok
Let's take a quick look at Yangjaeok's menu~?

- 2. Soup-and-rice dishes
- 3. Noodles
- 4. Set meals
- 5. Bossam
- 6. Drinks and alcohol

These are dishes any Korean would recognize right away — pork tang, makguksu, wang mandu (large dumplings), bossam, and so on. Exactly because they're so familiar, they need real care and skill to earn a reputation for being genuinely good.
We went on a weekend evening, and there were lots of families with parents or kids in tow. I also spotted groups of guys casually sharing drinks together. After eating, I understood exactly why Yangjaeok draws a crowd..!
What comes with the 37,000 won juanjang set
Let me leave a detailed review of why Yangjaeok is so appealing. Here's what our family ordered.
- Juanjang set ₩37,000
- Pork tang ₩11,000
- Cider ₩2,000

A little while later, the juanjang set arrived piled high on a stainless steel tray. Looks generous just from the photo, right? With no need to agonize over a menu, the basic spread comes packed with jeyuk bokkeum + bossam + dubu kimchi + zucchini pancake + 3 side dishes + vegetables! 👀👍🏻

First I tried a piece of the boiled bossam pork. Warm, tender, and just the right amount of fatty richness — a real treat haha. My husband and I are both meat lovers who often buy a pound of pork to boil at home, and honestly I wanted to learn how Yangjaeok boils theirs..!

Tofu and stir-fried kimchi, a combo that shows up often as a home side dish. Softly blanched tofu paired with salty-spicy stir-fried kimchi! Our child loves tofu, so I broke it into halves and popped pieces straight into her mouth. The kimchi was so savory and tangy it made me want to mix it into rice.

Jeyuk bokkeum, the star of Korean home cooking! If a place is known for great jeyuk bokkeum, that's a real seal of approval haha. It was seasoned a bit strong since it's meant as a drinking snack, but that's exactly what makes it addictive 🤣 My husband kept wrapping it in lettuce over and over lol.

My personal pick from the juanjang spread is the zucchini pancake. Freshly fried, crisp and golden! It seemed to have cheongyang chili in it, which was spicy enough to cut through the richness while keeping that savory pull that makes you keep reaching for it. The zucchini was sliced lengthwise, and its texture, cooked just right, was really appealing.
Sharing the 11,000 won pork gomtang with a child

The other dish we picked for our meal was pork tang. It's a clear toremi-style gomtang (broth made by pouring hot broth repeatedly over rice/meat) topped with thin slices of meat. The lightly clear broth was refreshing, and the softly cooked pork had a texture I really liked.

I cut the meat topping into small pieces, mixed it with rice, and gave it to my child — she finished the whole bowl in no time!

At the table next to us, another family ordered gogi guksu and shared it with their kids — next time I'll have to try the noodles and mandu too!
