I went to Jeju over the holiday! If you go to Jeju, you've got to eat black pork, right?! I had something to do near Jeju City Hall and was searching around the area when I found this place. It turned out to be a total local favorite. Locals kept walking in nonstop while we ate... time to introduce a truly local spot.
Where is Sicheong Geuttaegeujip, and what are the hours and parking?

It's set back from a big main road, right next to an elementary school! I walked over from Dongmun Market. As I was taking a photo before going in, a car was already pulling in... and when I tried to shoot from the side, some elderly folks walked in for a drink with their meat too. Instant trust :3;;
Black pork kimchi hot pot is available for takeout too. It's a certified model restaurant and a certified Handon pork shop... this place is definitely going to be good. Mouth watering already as I walked in! At the entrance there's parking info and... even a signed autograph from Lim Young-woong! Phone charging is available too.
Inside Sicheong Geuttaegeujip and the self-serve side dish corner
To the right of the entrance is the dining zone, and the inside was really spacious. I arrived around 7pm, still early evening, but more than half the tables were already eating! (The elderly gentleman standing up front is the same guy who walked in earlier, haha!) Families, groups of friends, couples — all ages packed in!

To the left of the entrance there's a big menu board on a banner~

Below that is a self-serve corner where you can refill side dishes. Rice is only free with the [lunch special] menu, orderable until 3pm!

The variety of side dishes is seriously generous. I haven't seen many places with this many kinds of banchan (side dishes) ㅇ//ㅇ Pickled onions, radish slices, even <<fernbrake>>! This place is basically a party!
Once seated, they fire up the grill for you ㅇ//ㅇ A basin-sized kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) with instant noodles included as a standard side!

Aged Jeju black pork half-and-half set (600g) for 78,000 won
We ordered the <Aged Jeju black pork set (600g), half-and-half> for ₩78,000! There was another Handon pork certification hanging inside too >:3 Is this what power feels like?
They say black pork is chewier than regular pork, let's see~

After a short wait, the side dishes came out in full force! Seasoned bean sprouts, chili peppers, lettuce~ my favorite boiled seaweed and pickled onions, sesame leaf salad, pickled radish, dried radish strips, even mayo macaroni salad~ Plus kimchi, bean sprouts, and fernbrake to grill separately.
The basin kimchi jjigae was set up quickly too. If it reduces too much, they bring over a kettle of broth so you can top it up yourself! Seems like you could even make egg custard with it if you come for lunch... this place is generous >:3;;
The kimchi jjigae is loaded with tofu and meat too. No wonder the elderly folks at the next table had a pile of soju bottles... pork kimchi jjigae..? Of course the drinks go down easy >;3;;
Black pork seared at 200°C and grilled for you by the staff
The black pork belly and neck set, pre-seared at 200°C, arrived! Black tiger shrimp come out per number of people ordering (extra is ₩4,000 per 2 pieces). Such plump shrimp — this is why people come to Jeju >:3;;
This is basically a royal feast, huh. With the anchovy sauce in the middle, it's overflowing with black pork tradition >:3;;; Might as well be a nine-partitioned platter >:3;;;
And the meat?! The staff grills it for you! (Yay~) I'm someone who can't grill meat myself... places that grill for you are the best!! While I sat there zoning out watching them cut it into bite-sized pieces!
And boom, egg custard comes out too. So fluffy... my mind went blank >:3;;; This egg custard is on another level... the bottom wasn't burnt at all. How did they control the heat that well :3;;; It was cooked perfectly fluffy from start to finish :3;;;;
Just staring blankly at the broth.

The meat looks so good >;3;;

Eating a plain piece first... somehow it's even chewier and richer?! Why is it chewier :3;;; The texture is amazing.
Dip the black pork deep in meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce)
Once in Jeju, you've got to eat anchovy sauce (myeoljeot)! Tip from a local friend: dip the meat deep, deep into the anchovy sauce for the real experience. While tasting the plain flavor of the meat first...
They grill onions and green onion strips for us next. The set feels so generous. The food just keeps coming, no end in sight >:3;;

They told us to cook it for about 1 more minute before eating >;3;
Down below, the kimchi, bean sprouts, and fernbrake are cooking nicely in the pork fat.

Since we already tried the belly, this time I quickly dunked the pork neck into the anchovy sauce~ Need I say more, it was amazing.
Ssamjang (dipping sauce) and garlic sauce(!) come out too — you can put them right on top of the meat as is, or wrap it in pickled radish for a refreshing finish, it's amazing ㅇ//ㅇ Jeju garlic is insanely spicy but since it's a garlic oil sauce, the heat is toned down and it was totally fine!

I put it on top of the well-grilled bean sprouts too, and put belly on the pickled onions with fernbrake on top. Mix all the well-cooked ingredients together and you know what happens in your mouth, right?
Mushrooms are cut into bite-sized pieces too~ ate the shrimp my friend neatly peeled ㅇ//ㅇ and had some with the sesame leaf pickles too...ㅇ//ㅇ
Wrap tip at Sicheong Geuttaegeujip: turn the lettuce upside down
When you wrap the meat in lettuce, try flipping the leaf over first. The soft side touches your mouth, so it's way easier to eat!!!
This time I wanted more of the fernbrake flavor, so I ate it without the sesame leaf~ The nicely browned mushrooms too, ㅇ//ㅇㅋ Clinked glasses with my friend and ate away.

Don't forget the basin kimchi jjigae just because the black pork is so good!

Even the meat in here is unbelievably thick. Piling on meat soaked in the kimchi jjigae broth makes your mouth go wild with that spicy, tangy kick!
Eating pork can get greasy sometimes, but here... with so many different combinations to enjoy, that never happens!! ㅇ//ㅇ

Finish with flying fish roe fried rice for 4,000 won
We deliberately left a bit of meat, cut it all up with scissors, and ordered the flying fish roe fried rice (₩4,000)! While we were eating the meat, we kept hearing other tables order the roe fried rice, so I thought, I have to try this before leaving~
The staff smartly gathered up the neatly-cut leftover meat and piled it right on top! The amount of roe is generous. This too gets stir-fried right in front of you.

Ooh, looks so good!

Scoop it up and take a bite? So much roe is packed in, you can see it's basically one-to-one with the rice grains ㅇ//ㅇ;; Totally chewy and nutty~~!
We'd been eating for a while but the portion just wasn't disappearing, so huh?! and I took a comparison photo. It's a single serving but the amount is huge! Still, we finished every last bite. That taste that keeps going even when you're full... guess I'm doing the dishes again tonight!
Homemade sikhye and tangerine slushie for leaving a receipt review
As we finished up and were about to pay, I noticed some products near the entrance! There was Jeju honey and Hershey's chocolate. Homemade sikhye (rice punch) is also sold for ₩2,000, but you can get it free with a Naver receipt review or an Instagram review!

Before that, I figured we should try it as a post-meal dessert ㅇ//ㅇ? Thought it'd be just plain juice and sikhye~ but as it poured out, wait, what is this... it's a slushie!!!! Tiny bits of shaved ice coming down with the tangerine juice and sikhye... so refreshing and delicious!!!

It's been ages since I had a slushie, and it was so refreshing and good~~ I posted the receipt review right away and got mine for free ㅇ//ㅇ Sikhye is a drink I'd only really have in winter, so it was nice to get to try it here ㅇ//ㅇ!
After eating so much, I was too full and walked all the way home :3 Even as we left, plenty of people were still eating there... if you're staying anywhere in Jeju City, definitely worth a visit!
