Family dinner Korean BBQ in Seongbuk, Seoul: Jangheungjip platter
In short
Jangheungjip Seongshin Women's University branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Seongshin Women's University Station in Seongbuk, Seoul. On a weekend family dinner for three, the writer and their parents grilled the medium mixed platter of beef brisket, pork belly and pork neck, topped it with the octopus jeotgal (salted seafood) given for joining the review event, and added doenjang jjigae, kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup) and minari fried rice. The parents said the meat was in good shape, making Jangheungjip a family dinner spot they would gladly return to.

I went to Jangheungjip, a famous spot near Seongshin Women's University, with my parents over the weekend. I'd been curious about it for a while, and since it was reportedly featured on Running Man, I was even more excited✨
It's located near Seongshin Women's University station, so it's easy to get to, and it seemed like the kind of place a lot of people choose for family dinners or work get-togethers. We went as a family too, and we were so satisfied the whole meal that I'd say our chance of going back is 100%☺️

Jangheungjip Seongshin Women's University branch: storefront and dining room
The exterior alone gave off serious foodie-spot vibes. It was dinnertime so there were plenty of customers, and my anticipation was already rising before we even walked in.

The inside was bigger than I expected, and the tables were spaced comfortably enough for a family meal. I spotted a work dinner table nearby, and plenty of groups of friends too.

What comes in the medium mixed platter: brisket, pork belly and pork neck
We ordered the medium mixed platter🥩 It comes with beef brisket, pork belly and pork neck together, which seemed like the perfect choice for a first visit.

If you join the review event, you can get either octopus jeotgal (salted, fermented octopus) or a drink as a free extra, so definitely take part!!! We did, and got the octopus jeotgal — it was really plump and delicious, I'll show you more below.

The basic side dishes came out. I really love it when they fill a whole tray like this — it just puts me in a good mood haha

Since the platter comes with beef brisket, pork belly and pork neck all together, we got to taste several cuts at once. The moment the meat arrived, the presentation already looked great✨ Eating just one cut would've felt like something was missing, but being able to enjoy brisket, pork belly and pork neck all in one sitting was so satisfying.

How each cut tasted on the grill
The beef brisket was thin so it cooked quickly and had a really nice nutty flavor. The pork belly was a good thickness with juicy, chewy texture that worked really well. Personally I also loved the pork neck — it wasn't dry at all, staying moist, so I kept reaching for more.

Jangheungjip's doenjang jjigae, and why the parents wanted rice in it
First we tried the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)🍲 I didn't expect much from a BBQ place's stew, but it was much richer and more savory than I thought. The broth had such deep flavor that it made me crave rice immediately, and my parents said, while eating, "let's come back and get this as a rice bowl next time"😆 It worked well alongside the meat, but honestly it would hold its own as a full meal too!

Review-event octopus jeotgal, eaten on top of the grilled meat
How the octopus jeotgal tasted with the pork
The octopus jeotgal we got as a service item was impressive too✨ It was tasty on its own, but piled lightly on top of the meat, the salty umami really added something and paired so well. My parents liked it too and kept adding it as they ate😊 It gave the meat a different kind of charm than eating it plain, and it's a combination I'd personally recommend!

It was great wrapped in lettuce too, and it went well alongside the side dishes. My parents kept saying the meat quality was good and ate happily, which made me even more satisfied☺️ Switching between the three cuts meant we never got tired of it, all the way through.

Finishing the family dinner with kimchi mari guksu and minari fried rice
The kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup) we ordered alongside was satisfying too✨ It's the cool style with bits of ice floating in the broth, so taking a bite between meat courses cleared my palate perfectly! The tangy-sweet broth was great, and it paired really well with the meat. Eating it in between kept things from feeling too greasy, so I kept going back to it.

And of course, fried rice to finish👍 We ordered the minari (water celery) fried rice. The staff added the seasoning, fried it up, and spread it out neatly for easy eating — the perfect finishing dish after all that meat! The subtle minari aroma cut through the richness, and the nutty fried rice flavor kept me eating. They even topped it with a fried egg at the end, which looked great and tasted just as good🍳
From the meat to the finishing dishes, everything was satisfying at Jangheungjip Seongshin Women's University branch☺️
