I had somewhere to be near Gangnam Station, and since I was in the area anyway, I stopped by a restaurant I love dearly. Whenever I crave a spicy broth and a chewy fried dish, I never hesitate to head to Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon, my go-to spot for beef hand-cut noodles in Gangnam — and I finally made it back after a long time. It suits my taste so well that I need to eat there regularly or I just don't feel right, haha.
Where is Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon, and when is it open?
Namsogwan U Yuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station that occupies both the 1st and 2nd floors at 19 Teheran-ro 1-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:20, with last order at 22:00.

It's only 169m from Gangnam Station Exit 11, so there's no chance of getting lost — great transit access. Walk out of Exit 11 and it's just a 2-minute walk for an adult, a genuinely prime station location. It's also a 7-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 9 and a 10-minute walk from Yeoksam Station Exit 4, so it's easy to reach from anywhere in central Gangnam. That said, sitting right in the heart of a busy commercial district, there's no dedicated building parking lot.

Lunch rush: first floor full, seated on the second floor
The 1st floor of Namsogwan shares space with the kitchen and dining area, so it has fewer seats than the 2nd floor. Sure enough, when I visited during lunch peak time, the 1st floor was full, so I headed upstairs.
Next to the door on the 1st floor, you can vividly watch a chef in a white uniform skillfully shaping dim sum. If you visit during peak time, you'll most likely be seated upstairs.

Food comes out fast and the quality is guaranteed at this beef noodle spot in Gangnam, so I could really tell it has quite a few regulars. With its antique interior — red and blue windows, Chinese character signage — it's just as fitting for a casual lunch as it is for a group gathering or date at dinnertime.
Namsogwan's menu and how to order by tablet

Every table has a T Order tablet for ordering and paying, all in one system.

Once you're seated, you're neatly set up with savory roasted peanuts and tangy pickled cabbage to enjoy before the meal. It's a clean, tidy little spread that's more than enough to whet your appetite.

A 25-minute guobaorou notice that took 3 minutes
I ordered my usual set route here: beef hand-cut noodles and guobaorou. Since it was lunchtime, they kindly let me know that guobaorou orders were backed up and might take about 25 minutes to cook. This place fries guobaorou so incredibly well that every table around me seemed to have ordered it too, as if by agreement — so I decided to wait patiently.
But less than 3 minutes after the beef noodles were served, freshly fried, piping hot guobaorou landed on my table one after another. Seeing food come out this fast even during such a busy rush made me admire the turnover of a large-scale restaurant like this. The staff's service was excellent too, which put me in a good mood even before the meal started.

How do the broth and noodles of u yuk dosakmyeon taste?
Time to properly taste the signature dish of this beef noodle spot in Gangnam: the authentic Taiwanese-style u yuk dosakmyeon (hand-cut beef noodles). Take a big spoonful of the broth and you'll find it's a Korean beef bone base simmered all day long, with the rich meaty flavor of aronsatae (beef shank) melted right in.

Compared to what I had in Taiwan itself, the spices here are more moderate and tuned just right for Korean palates, so it's a flavor pretty much anyone can enjoy without complaint.

The real star of this dish, the noodles, are made from dough aged for 24 hours and then shaved off at an angle with a special knife. Unlike regular machine-cut noodles, these have an irregular thickness and curve, delivering a chewy, sticky texture that clings to your chopsticks with every bite.

The rich bone broth soaks right into the wide surface of the noodles rather than just sitting on top, showing off a fantastic unity between noodle and soup. The aronsatae beef shank, boiled in-house, is thick yet so moist that it shreds softly along the grain with just the slightest tug — a great match for the chewy noodles.

Namsogwan's guobaorou: fresh out of the fryer
Next, my chopsticks moved to my all-time favorite dish, which always maintains the same excellent quality no matter when I have it: guobaorou. Piled up high like a mountain on a round plate, the golden fried pieces are topped with garlic slices and sprouts for a stunning presentation.

Even though it came out much faster than expected, the fried coating was in top condition.

Looking at the cut cross-section, the pork loin is wrapped thin and perfectly, with no gaps, in a chewy starch-based batter. Because the fresh meat is battered and fried immediately in clean oil right after ordering, there's absolutely no gamey smell, just savory juices filling every bite.
The moment a piece of freshly fried guobaorou hits your mouth, the shattering, cracker-like crust and the sticky, mochi-like chewiness underneath give off an overwhelming charm. The special sauce that ties the whole dish together isn't so sour it makes you cough — it has a mild, sweet-and-tangy balance anyone can enjoy, keeping my chopsticks reaching back for more without ever feeling heavy or greasy.
Why a regular keeps going back to Namsogwan
True to form as my genuine go-to spot that I finally revisited after a while, this beef noodle restaurant in Gangnam delivered its usual flawless flavor along with friendly service that never lost its smile even in the chaos, making for an incredibly satisfying meal. I finished a hearty, wonderful lunch built on dishes that recreate authentic Taiwanese flavors at a high level.
If you're looking for somewhere around Gangnam Station with fast turnover and guaranteed, can't-go-wrong flavor, definitely pay a visit. If it were near my house, I'd go once a week.
