Sinyongsan gomtang restaurant, five dishes solo for ₩40,000: Baekok
In short
Baekok Yongsan (백옥 용산) is a Korean restaurant between Sinyongsan and Yongsan stations in Seoul specializing in pork gomtang (pork bone soup) and yeol gomtang (spicy pork bone soup). Arriving at opening time, the blogger had five items, pork gomtang, yeol gomtang, cabbage mandu (dumplings), chilled boiled pork and a 2,900-won glass of Baekseju, for 40,000 won. Baekok Yongsan is worth thinking of first when you want a hearty solo bowl of gukbap (soup with rice).

Looking for a restaurant near Sinyongsan Station and Yongsan I'Park Mall? This is Gamjane's owner! As a Gunpo resident I ride Line 4 all the time, and this time I stopped by Sinyongsan Station

I was craving a piping hot bowl of gukbap (soup with rice), so I went to Baekok Yongsan and slurped up some gomtang. This post is the review! Baekok Yongsan is close to both Sinyongsan and Yongsan stations, so you can drop by whenever the mood strikes.

The main dishes are pork gomtang and yeol gomtang, and you can also try cabbage mandu (dumplings), bulkkorangji and cold pork. If you want a really filling meal today, this is my instant recommendation near Sinyongsan Station: a rice spot that's also great for eating alone.
Baekok Yongsan location, hours and facilities
Baekok Yongsan is at 11-76 Hangang-daero 10-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. Groups and reservations are welcome, corkage is allowed, parking is free, and you can even rent the space.
Pork gomtang + yeol gomtang + cabbage mandu + cold pork + baekseju: how much for all of it?
My recommendation at Baekok Yongsan: pick a gomtang, and cabbage mandu is a must. A true pro also adds a ₩2,900 glass of baekseju (herbal rice wine).

I ordered more than I expected, but for ₩40,000, honestly, isn't that the best value? Starting with the pork gomtang, you can feel the touch of a chef with fine-dining experience. They say there's 100g of meat in it alone, and you can definitely tell.

Pork gomtang vs. yeol gomtang
The pork gomtang has a clean, mild broth, and all I can say is that it's excellent. The yeol gomtang is the same with a few spoonfuls of spice added. Nicely hot and kicking. Maybe because it had been a while since my last gukbap, but I think I enjoyed it even more than grilled meat, haha.

The real star over the gomtang: cabbage mandu
In a way, this is the bigger star of Baekok Yongsan than the gomtang... the cabbage mandu. The juices are locked in with cabbage, and when you put one whole in your mouth, the flavor of the dumpling bursts out in all directions and mixes with the sweetness of the cabbage. It's really something, seriously..
Personally, I hope you'll order at least two pieces.

Summer specialty: cold pork
This one was new to me, and since it's summer I ordered it too: cold pork!! I'd thought jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) was the only way to eat that cut, and this flavor shook off my humble assumption right away.

They say the pork cheek is cooked until chewy, and pork cheek is seriously delicious, for real. A Baekok specialty you should try before summer ends~

A glass of baekseju, the "baekjjabaegi"
Oh, and hahaha, you can order baekseju by the single glass, called a baekjjabaegi, and this is a must-order too. It tastes like sweet white wine, so good!! I'm not sure you can call it a "quick sip" of liquor, but it's great for putting you in a good mood~

The scene after I finished it all. I hereby crown this the best gukbap restaurant among the places near Sinyongsan Station.

Baekok Yongsan near Sinyongsan Station: location and interior
Baekok Yongsan seems to be about the same distance whether you get off at Yongsan, Sinyongsan or Ichon station; walk toward Ichon Hangang Park or the Yongsan Railway Depot and you'll find it.

It's split into a 1st and 2nd floor, and they seat people on the 2nd floor first. I went almost right at opening, so I could take photos of the place in peace.

There's also a private group seating area like this. Good to know near Yongsan if you're planning a company dinner over gukbap.

Wrapping up
That's my review of Baekok Yongsan, a gukbap spot near Sinyongsan Station that's great for eating solo, where I happily had gomtang with cabbage mandu and cold pork and finished with a baekjjabaegi. When you're craving gukbap, want something filling, or need a place to eat alone near Yongsan, try Baekok Yongsan first~
