Hapjeong café for a first pour-over and an hour of talk: Central Site
In short
Central Site Hapjeong is a brewing-coffee roastery café on Yanghwa-ro 7-gil in Mapo, Seoul. We took a window seat under the café's yellow lighting and spent an hour talking over a cup of brewing coffee and a classic tiramisu, whose cream melted away with coffee syrup soaked all the way through. Even an Americano-only drinker can start brewing coffee easily at Central Site Hapjeong with the barista's recommendation.

I never expected a café like this to exist in Hapjeong. I'd heard it was known for brewing coffee, but the moment I stepped in, even the lighting felt different.

Yellow lighting wraps the whole space in warmth, so I felt cozy the second I walked in.

It's a café that doesn't feel like a café — more like stepping into someone's personal study.
Taking a window seat at Central Site Hapjeong

We got lucky and landed a window seat at Central Site Hapjeong, and it really made the visit. Looking out at the Hapjeong street while holding a cup of coffee and just zoning out — that feeling was so good.

Seating isn't just indoors either — there are outdoor tables outside the shop and chairs along the side, so on a nice day you could easily enjoy it outside too.
Pretty from inside, pretty from outside — that's this café. We sat like this, enjoying brewing coffee, and talked for an hour. It was also great for just staring out the window and zoning out.
What exactly is brewing coffee?
For those new to brewing coffee, let me explain first.

Brewing coffee is coffee made hand-drip style. Instead of extracting with high pressure like espresso, hot water is poured slowly over the grounds and the coffee is drawn out naturally by gravity.

The biggest feature of this method is that the bean's own aroma and flavor stay intact. Even with the same beans, espresso and hand drip taste completely different.

With brewing, you notice delicate notes like fruit, flowers, and nuts more than bitterness. Central Site is a roastery café that makes this brewing method its signature.
The classic tiramisu was better than expected

Alongside coffee at Central Site Hapjeong, we also ordered tiramisu — and it looked different from the moment it arrived. Dusted generously with dark chocolate powder on top, it already had me hyped just looking at it.
One bite in, I thought, "So this is what tiramisu is supposed to taste like." The moistness was on another level. Some tiramisu I've had elsewhere was dry or too sweet, but here the cream melts softly in your mouth with coffee syrup soaked through — you can really feel that moistness.

They say it's a classic tiramisu made with an authentic Italian recipe, and that claim wasn't for nothing. Eating it alongside the coffee made both flavors come alive more, so switching back and forth between the two was so nice.

By the way, they also have a lotus tiramisu, and I've already decided I need to try that next time.
Why Central Site Hapjeong is worth a visit

There are plenty of cafés in Hapjeong, but Central Site isn't just a nice-vibe café. It's a space that's genuinely serious about the coffee itself.

A professional roaster personally selects the green beans, roasts, and handles QC right there in the shop — and you can genuinely feel that in every cup. Even first-timers to brewing coffee can pick without much trouble since the barista recommends something suited to your taste.

Even people like me who used to only drink Americanos could fall for brewing coffee after trying it once. That time spent sitting by the window under the yellow lighting with a cup of coffee still stays with me. 😊

If you're looking for a café in Hapjeong, or want to give brewing coffee a try, I highly recommend Central Site.
