Jamsil Korean BBQ: Cheongyang chili soy tip at Chowon Salt Grill
In short
Chowon Salt Grill (초원소금구이) is a hanwoo brisket samhap restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley near Jamsil in Songpa, Seoul. The writer arrived around 6:30pm on a weekday after work and ordered the 2-person samhap for 56,000 won: hanwoo special cuts, Korean king scallop and Haenam aged kimchi, dipped in the house soy sauce loaded with Cheongyang chili. Chowon Salt Grill serves high-quality food to go with drinks, and the writer would gladly go back.

I'd had my eye on a place that serves brisket samhap for a while, and the combo of hanwoo, scallop and aged kimchi is fantastic, so here it is!
Chowon Salt Grill hours and weekday evening atmosphere

Rushed over straight from work to Chowon Salt Grill ➿🪽

I arrived around 6:30pm on a weekday and it was almost full. You can reserve on Naver, so book before you come! This is the inside, and there was even a big group sitting at three tables pushed together.

How to eat brisket samhap (beef, scallop and aged kimchi)
At Chowon Salt Grill, the way to enjoy the samhap is to cook the beef medium-rare, cook the king scallop only briefly, and put the aged kimchi on raw, then dip it all in the soy sauce. There were two of us, so we ordered the 2-person samhap for ₩56,000!
🍀Beef medium-rare + scallop barely cooked + raw aged kimchi + soy sauce = the way to eat it🍀

The singer Lee Mujin has been here too.
What comes in the 2-person samhap set, plus side dishes
The 2-person samhap set at Chowon Salt Grill is exactly enough for two with aged kimchi, scallop and beef, and it comes with the special soy sauce, salt, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), sesame oil dip and pajeori (scallion salad) as standard.

Here comes the 2-person samhap set.

The special soy sauce for dipping the samhap.. 🫶🏻 This stuff is so good, x 100

Salt, ssamjang and sesame oil dip

Even the pajeori is a standard side, and the pajeori is sooo dang good
Aged kimchi + scallop + beef: exactly the 2-person samhap lineup.

The Haenam aged kimchi is amazing. Jeolla-style aged kimchi = the identity of samhap. And the domestic king scallop is tender too 🥹
My tip: Cheongyang chili in the soy dipping sauce
My tip is to add Cheongyang chili (a spicy Korean green chili) to Chowon Salt Grill's special soy sauce, and put in loads.

Ask for extra Cheongyang chili and pile it into the soy sauce 👍 The chili is a must.
Brisket, scallop and aged kimchi samhap: how did it taste?
The brisket samhap at Chowon Salt Grill was a triple hit: rich, fatty brisket, tender king scallop and fresh Haenam aged kimchi, all coming together with the special soy sauce. The scallop and brisket cook quickly, which is especially nice when you're starving.

Once we're ready to eat, I'll grill it up and dig in. Soju and beer are all set too! Scallop and brisket that cook up fast when you're dying of hunger.. ♡ The look of it was off the charts..

Like this: scallop on top of the brisket, then the aged kimchi plopped on. Aged kimchi, I'm coming back for you 🙄

Dunk it generously in the special soy sauce and you get rich, fatty brisket, tender scallop and fresh Haenam aged kimchi, a triple hit that's just killer.

My seat also looked out to the street, so romantic ^___^*

The pajeori was delicious too, so I ate a lot of it. A perfect place for two.
Then I grilled the other special cuts and ate them as samhap too, and it was even better!

I wanted to order fried rice too, but we had a second round to go to, so I stopped. Please, someone eat the fried rice for me..

The restroom is inside the restaurant.
Verdict: is Chowon Salt Grill's brisket samhap worth a return visit?
At Chowon Salt Grill the ingredients were good quality, from the hanwoo special cuts to the domestic king scallop and Haenam aged kimchi, and the prices seemed fair. A honey of a combo‼️ Above all, it's high-quality drinking food that goes down perfectly with a glass, so I enjoyed it a lot.
Two people with the 2-person samhap plus fried rice, stew and so on would be plenty filling. It's a place with high satisfaction, so do stop by when you're in Bangi Food Alley. I'd go back!
