A Yongin Korean buffet I visited for the stir-fried pork

I was desperate for a plate of jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), and that's how I ended up at Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak in Yangji-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin. I'd slept in on the weekend and was watching YouTube when Korean buffet videos kept popping up in my recommendations. Somewhere along the way I suddenly needed stir-fried pork. I don't know why jeyuk and pork cutlets taste so good lately, haha.

While searching for a good-value buffet in Cheoin-gu, I found Daedong, which is famous as a Korean spot near Yongin Service Area (용인휴게소). I was already heading to Yongin to buy some baby gear for Maru, so I took care of lunch at the same time.

Daedong turned out to be a buffet with a good word-of-mouth reputation in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu. A dietitian and cooks with years of experience put the menu together, and they say they serve around 20 or more dishes at every meal, made with healthy ingredients. They also keep hygiene and cleanliness in check, which made me feel I could eat there with confidence!

I heard that office workers nearby, local residents, and even people from Seoul and other regions make a special trip here. After visiting in person, I get why it's popular.

Does the menu at Daedong change every day?

Daedong runs a different menu for each day of the week. The lineup is varied enough that you wouldn't get bored even coming every day, so it suits anyone looking for a recommended Korean buffet in Yongin.

  • ✔️ Salad corner: fresh cucumber, carrot, onion, garlic, romaine lettuce, cabbage, bell pepper and more
  • ✔️ Mornings and weekends: toast with jam, cereal with milk
  • ✔️ Noodles: janchi guksu (banquet noodles), yeolmu guksu (young radish kimchi noodles), ramen
  • ✔️ Dessert: rice cakes or fruit, homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink), drip coffee and instant coffee

With this much on offer, I could finish everything from the meal to dessert in one go.

How much is Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak?

It's ₩9,000 per person, and you pay first, so you just tell them how many people you are when you walk in! I was amazed that you can eat this many different dishes, all-you-can-eat, at this price.

These days a single meal often costs well over ₩10,000, but at Daedong you hand over a ₩10,000 note and get ₩1,000 back, so it's easy on the wallet. Rice, noodles, buckwheat noodles and even ramen are all self-serve, so I think anyone hunting for a buffet in Cheoin-gu will be very happy here.

A spacious restaurant that works for group meals

The restaurant is much bigger than I expected, with lots of tables, so it was comfortable to eat in. It's also good for groups, and I hear staff from nearby companies come a lot for lunch or dinner.

There really were a lot of office workers, and regular family groups kept coming in too. It has an easygoing atmosphere if you're looking for a buffet in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu!

Do they do dosirak takeout and catering?

Besides dining in, Daedong also does dosirak (lunchbox) takeout. When I read reviews, I found plenty of people pack a dosirak before heading to Caribbean Bay or Everland. It seems like a great way to bring a filling meal along instead of paying for pricey food at the park.

They also offer group orders and catering, and I hear it's often used for company events, gatherings and all kinds of group meals. It could be a good option for anyone who needs catering!

Today's menu, Saturday, July 4

Today's menu at Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak, Saturday, July 4

I visited Daedong on Saturday, July 4! The menu that day was brisket doenjang soup (차돌된장국), jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork), tofu with seasoned soy sauce, fried cod (민대구튀김), japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), stir-fried zucchini and mushrooms, pickled cucumber, broccoli with chogochujang (sweet-sour chili sauce), and eolgari geotjeori (fresh young cabbage kimchi).

Okay, now let's fill the tray with everything we want to eat. You load the tray with as much as you like, which brought back memories of school lunches.

There were so many side dishes that the tray was barely big enough. Since my goal for the day was the jeyuk bokkeum, I piled plenty of pork on my rice and added a bit of every side dish too.

From wrap vegetables to noodles and soba

Daedong has a separate wrap vegetable corner, and eating the jeyuk bokkeum wrapped in cabbage was really delicious.

Janchi guksu, soba and ramen are self-serve too. I was craving noodles and soba that day, so I tried both. The broth was clean and perfectly seasoned, as satisfying as a specialty shop.

A dessert spread that rounds it all off

Honey rice cakes and wind rice cakes served as dessert

For after the meal, Daedong had cereal, sliced bread and rice cakes ready. Instead of fruit, they served honey rice cakes (kkultteok) and wind rice cakes (baramtteok) that day, and it was a lovely sweet finish. With dessert like this, I understand why it's recommended as a Korean spot near Yongin Service Area.

Fried cod over stir-fried pork? Home-style food where every side is good

Generous tray with fried cod and side dishes

Our trays looked really generous. My husband loves fish, so he brought two pieces of fried cod, and they were meatier than expected and so good. I went for the jeyuk bokkeum, but the fried fish was so tasty that I kept reaching for it instead. The other sides each felt carefully made, and even though it's a healthy menu, the flavor didn't fall short.

Buffet stir-fried pork over rice

True to Korean buffet style, the jeyuk bokkeum was great mixed into rice and went really well wrapped in cabbage too. The meat wasn't dry but tender, so I was happy!

Self-served bowl of soba

The noodles and soba were better than I expected too, good enough that they could sell them separately. It had been a while since I'd had such a filling, great-value lunch, and I was really satisfied!

Is Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak worth going back to?

If you're looking for a good-value buffet in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Daedong is a really satisfying choice! With a menu that changes daily, lots of side dishes, hearty Korean food and a spacious hall, I'd recommend it for office lunches and family meals alike.

If you're searching for a Korean place near Yongin Service Area, a buffet in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, or a recommended Korean buffet in Yongin, I don't think you'll regret a visit. Dosirak takeout and catering make it even more useful. It's a Korean buffet I'd like to stop by again next time I'm in Yongin 👍🏻
