Kodari spot near Icheon National Cemetery: octopus braise, Seonghone

Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang (성호네왕코다리동태탕) is a kodari (semi-dried pollock) and dongtaetang (pollock stew) restaurant in Seolseong-myeon, Icheon, Gyeonggi, near the Icheon National Cemetery, and was featured on KBS's Saengsaeng Jeongbo. Arriving just before the break time, the writer ordered the flower octopus kodari braise for two (99,000 won), which came with clear cod soup and cheese steamed egg; the whole octopus was tender and the sauce was delicious. Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang is a hearty place to take your parents for a meal after paying respects at the Icheon National Cemetery.

Sindang chicken restaurant: pollock roe sauce for two, Gyeryugwan

Gyeryugwan (계류관) is an oak wood-fired chicken restaurant in an alley next to Jungang Market in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. After work, two people ordered four dishes with no alcohol, focusing on the meal: oak-roasted chicken with neungi mushrooms (22,000 won), meat doenjang makguksu (12,000 won), dakgaejang (13,000 won) and fried chicken gizzards with scallion (15,000 won), and finished every plate. The pollock roe sauce served as a side dish goes well with both the wood-fired chicken and the scallion-fried gizzards, so Gyeryugwan is a good choice for a filling chicken meal in Sindang.

Sinnonhyeon café after gyukatsu, mango cake: Something About Coffee

Something About Coffee is a large three-floor dessert café between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. After a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) meal near Sinnonhyeon Station, the writer and her boyfriend walked over and ordered a matcha choco latte, green tangerine ade, mango fresh cream cake and choco pudding cookie. The cake piled with fresh mango and the rich, fudgy choco pudding cookie were the highlights. Something About Coffee is a comfortable Gangnam dessert café for both dates and laptop work.

Sinnonhyeon gyukatsu while pregnant: well-done and tantanmen, Ichigyu

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer came back to Ichigyu after missing the taste of its Gwanghwamun branch and ordered striploin gyukatsu (19,000 won) with extra meat (14,000 won), tantanmen (11,000 won), and karaage with shrimp tempura (6,000 won). Grilled well-done because the writer is pregnant, the Ichigyu striploin still stayed tender rather than tough, and the tantanmen cut through the gyukatsu's richness, making it a satisfying meal.

Gapyeong bakery easy on the stomach at 25 weeks pregnant: Le Bonbbang

Gangnam Station pasta lunch, shake a bell to order: Eulji Darak

Eulji Darak Gangnam Station is an omurice and pasta restaurant on the 2nd floor near Gangnam Station in Seoul. On a weekend trip to Gangnam for a hair appointment, the writer had lunch there with Darak rose pasta, spicy crab risotto and cream onion fries, and the elevator-like entrance, the wardrobe-door restroom and ordering by shaking a bell stood out most. Namwirye shabu-shabu restaurant: dip rice paper in broth, Dadam

Dadam Shabu Shabu & Wolnamssam Wirye Branch (다담샤브샤브&월남쌈 위례점) is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu restaurant with unlimited vegetables, rice paper wraps and beef, on the 3rd floor of G&G Plaza, a 5-minute walk from Namwirye Station in Seongnam. A former regular from her Seongnam days, the blogger returned after work with her boyfriend for a half clear, half spicy broth, beef brisket and chuck, rice paper wraps dipped in the shabu-shabu broth, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), porridge and an ice cream dessert. Even after a long break, the grade-A vegetables from Garak Market at Dadam Shabu Shabu were as fresh as ever.
