Sanbon hair salon iron perm to tame puffy men's hair: Urban Trend

I usually just get regular perms at the hair salon! But after a regular perm, my hair often gets puffy and the curls come out too strong, so it looks worse and worse as it grows out 🥹 So this time I wanted to try something different, and I got an iron perm for the first time!!

There are so many hair salons in Sanbon that I was torn over where to go, but I ended up at Urban Trend Sanbon, famous for its iron perms! Here's my honest review of the iron perm + down perm~~!!

Where is Urban Trend Sanbon, and what are its hours?

Urban Trend Sanbon is on the 4th floor of 78 Gwangjeong-ro, Gunpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, a 7-minute walk from Sanbon Station. Hours are Tue–Fri 10:30–20:30, Sat 10:00–20:00, Sun 10:00–19:00, closed Mondays. Parking is available at a nearby public lot.

Hair condition before the perm and the stylist consultation

Before the treatment, my hair was overall puffy. The sides had also grown out a lot and looked messy. Before starting, the designer gave me a thorough consultation about the style I wanted👍👍

I told them I usually prefer a natural look over strong curls, and that I wanted the sides to feel calm and neat! After the consultation, we decided the top would get an iron perm for natural volume and curl, and the sides would get a down perm so they wouldn't look puffy!

How the iron perm and side down perm were done

First, they did the overall cut, then moved on to the iron perm and down perm. Unlike a regular rod perm, an iron perm apparently lets them control the direction and volume of each strand individually, so you can add volume or adjust curl direction exactly where you want!!

The designer wrapped each section carefully one by one hahaha. With men's hair, too much curl can easily look puffy, so this time they went for natural volume rather than strong curls~~ And the sides were pressed down neatly with the down perm!

The result: how the iron perm differed from a regular perm

This was my first time trying an iron perm, and it definitely looked less puffy than a regular perm, with much more natural curls haha

The sides were also pressed down with the down perm, so the whole silhouette looked much cleaner!!

I'd only ever gotten regular perms before, but after trying the iron perm for the first time, I get why it's so popular for men's hair haha. Best of all, when styling, just blow-drying it in the direction I wanted brought back the volume naturally, which made mornings so much easier!!

The Verspa massage chair service during the shampoo

Another great part was the Bel Spa massage service during the shampoo! The massage chair was way more soothing than I expected haha. After the shampoo, my whole body felt so refreshed — very satisfying!!
