Sinchon bar for a 3rd round: gopchang hot pot with kalguksu, Yeokjeon
In short
Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch is a retro pojangmacha-style bar (Korean street tent bar) on Yeonse-ro 7-gil near Sinchon Station in Seodaemun, Seoul, known for soup-based anju (drinking food). On a Sinchon date, the writer and her husband stopped at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha for a third round of pepperoni corn cheese and hanwoo gopmani gopchang jeongol (Korean beef tripe hot pot) with added kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), plus soju. Verdict: Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch is an affordable soup bar that is easy to drop into for a second or third round.

Why we picked Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch for our third round
Yeokjeon Pojangmacha (역전포장마차) Sinchon Branch is where my husband and I ended up for a third round on our Sinchon date day. We chose it because, like Yeokjeon Halmaek, Yeokjeon Pojangmacha is famous for great value and amazing soup anju (drinking food). We were having such a great time on our date that the energy just exploded...! And we ran all the way to a third round, haha!
I'd been to the Yeongdeungpo branch before and was so satisfied ❣️❣️ There happened to be a Sinchon branch too, so we decided to go!
How to get to Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch
Come out of Sinchon Station Exit 1 or 2 and walk about 8–10 minutes. By bus, it's a 5 minute walk from the Sinchon Five-way Intersection or Hyundai Department Store stops! The access is so good~

What's the atmosphere like at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch?
This is a retro-style bar themed on the street pojangmacha (tent bars) that have mostly disappeared these days. Right? The signature Yeokjeon Pojangmacha vibe is exactly that pojangmacha feel! It's full of retro charm, which makes drinking with friends even more fun!

The Sinchon branch has that signature vibe too, and the spacious interior feels comfortable, which is a bonus~ And the owner was kind, which made it even nicer!

It was a weekday and already fairly late, so a lot of customers had left, but apparently it's almost always full during weekday evening peak hours and on weekend evenings!

Group seating and window seats
There's also a space at the back for groups, and it's known as a place where nearby university students come in small groups in the evening. Ah... if only there'd been a place like this in front of my school, I could've been a regular... haha 😂😂😂

So full of retro charm that my mood lifts all by itself! Up! Up!

If you sit by the window, the mood gets even better~

As always, the third round started with soju while already half drunk...! Hubby, you worked hard today... 🥺🥺 My soju gauge is totally full, so I think I don't need to be entertained for a while haha. I feel like the booze smell still hasn't left my body, haha (a drinker's excuse)

A kiosk and a burner at every table
Every table has a kiosk, and since soup anju is the main thing here, there are burners on the tables too.

Why I recommend Yeokjeon Pojangmacha for a second or third round
Gangnam, Hongdae, Jonggak, Sinchon and Yeongdeungpo, where Yeokjeon Pojangmacha has branches, are all transport hubs and meeting spots, right? Seriously, there's no better place for a second or third round.
Personally, I like the Sinchon branch's atmosphere the most. The interior is wide open, so it even has an outdoor-drinking feel, which I loved.

How do the pepperoni corn cheese and hanwoo gopchang hot pot taste?
We started simple with the pepperoni corn cheese. All the soup dishes sound delicious, so I needed some time to decide;; The pepperoni corn cheese was, wow, honestly a crazy good anju... so sweet and salty and delicious that my appetite came roaring back...🤤🤤🤤 So we decided to go for the soup! (Third rounds are usually light, but not for us)

Gopchang hot pot with added kalguksu noodles
For the soup, we ordered the hanwoo gopmani gopchang jeongol (beef tripe hot pot) and added kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) portions, of course! You can totally trust those frozen kalguksu noodles, they're a proven winner 😆😆 Once it starts boiling, the noodles loosen up on their own and turn out chewy and delicious~~

Wow, it was loaded with perilla leaves and bean sprouts, and the broth was rich, so I lost my mind and raced through the soju... Seriously, this place is so good at red (spicy) dishes ㅠㅠ Gamey meat smell? What's that? When you come to Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch, definitely order the soup...👍

Why a good-value bar is the best, all the way to the end
Even the final K-dessert was ★a. suc. cess★ I got so wasted I don't even remember how I got home...haha (hubby carried us well)
I really think the best bars are the ones with great value and tasty food. It's easier on the wallet, and if it's hearty too... the drinks go down smoothly, and you can meet friends often and have fun! 😍😍
